Inside the Obama White House
Now that you have viewed Inside the Obama White House, what did you find surprising or interesting? Would you want to live there, or be interested in working there? Why/Why Not?
The video pertaining to information about the white house was a very interesting take on President Obama's life. The average life of a person who works within the white house seems to me like the life of a shark. These people are always hungry and always willing to do what ever it takes to ensure the steady progression of our government. What I thought was the most interesting about being inside the white house was probably all of the history attached to the white house. Now, I knew that there was a lot of artifacts within the White House, but it was interesting in seeing what President Obama thought was most interesting As for living within the white house, or having a job that was associated with the average day of the president, I personally wouldn't want to be a part of it. I wouldn't have a problem dealing with the responsibilities as much as the constant government life. After viewing the people that work in the White House on the daily, I learned that most of them live their entire lives within that atmosphere. I don't have a problem working hard, but I couldn't have a 100 percent focus on a life such as those who live it. Also I couldn't deal with the amount of Press that they deal with. To be honest, I think it is nice to be able to receive a cheese burger from five guys with some of my co-workers without having to shake twenty hands and have iphone pictures taken of me.
I think "Inside the White House" was really cool to watch. You don't normally get to see what goes on inside the historical building on a daily basis. The whole show was completely real and informative. What I really found interesting was how laid back the president and staff were. From 7:00am to 7-11pm at night, when the people who work in the white house are not working, you saw that they were eating apples and M&M's, listening to music, and ordering a burger from five guys. President Obama even said that he got to play basketball a couple of times and that their making the tennis court into a basketball court to play on. It seems like a real stress reliever and a way to get away from the stress and pressure from being the President of the United States. President Obama attends soccer games, parent teacher conferences, and has family time. These sort of things keep him grounded. The White house is a beautiful and magnificently historical place. Living there would be a dream come true. It's elegant and rather large. That being said, I would not want to work there. First of all, in the show, they stated that on a good day the outer offices are cramped. Second of all, working in the White house, for me, would be really intimidating. I would feel as if every comment i make could be held against me and jeopardize my career. Any job in the White house is demanding and has harsh working ours. Practically 12 hours a day, even more. It would be a privilege to work for the president, however, i don't think i would last even a week. I need to have free time and a social life to keep me sane.
After watching the video about President Obama and his life inside the White House, I have learned a lot about the day to day schedule. I never realized how busy the president is while in the white house. I always assumed he just had an easy going life and only had to do a few simple tasks a day. After seeing this documentary, you can see that is very untrue. I was suprised at how caotic the white house can get as well. There are people all over the place doing all sorts of jobs, and after a while that type of environment can get very stressful. I know for a fact that I would not want to work in the white house. The amount of stress and chaos that those employees deal with every day is way too much for me to handle. Not only that, but the press is always swarming into that building and over time that would get on my nerves. Finally, if given the opportunity, I would decline on living in the white house. The interior is way too nice for my liking, and knowing me I would break something in a second. Like I mentioned before, the press is constantly in the white house and that would really annoy me. I like to have my privacy and the press breaching it all the time would really aggrivate me.
After watching “Inside the White House” I am in disbelief at how much that goes on inside the white house that I have never thought about. For example, I never knew that there were separate sections of the white house that certain people are in charge of. I also find it very interesting how many different jobs there are yet each one is astonishingly demanding and stressful. In my opinion, I would never want to live in the white house, as nice and luxurious as it is. I feel as though it is more of a historical building than a home. It is filled with several offices and work places and there are also many other people inside your home at all times. I also would never be interested in obtaining a job at the white house. Even though every job is filled with great experience and it would be a very cool thing to work with the President of the United States, the jobs call for a lot. Many hours are needed to be put in at the office and many hours at home as well. Anyone who works at the white house is put under a great deal of stress and anxiety for several hours a week. I never knew how much each individual person was required to do, even for the less significant jobs such as the receptionists. Another reason I would not want to be a part of the white house is due to all of the publicity that comes with it. There are so many press conferences and cameras that are always around you, you rarely have time to yourself. Even though I personally would never want to work or live in the white house, I give a lot of credit to the individuals who do work there and I think it is one of the coolest jobs you could ever have.
When watching the "Inside the White House" videos,I thought the most interesting part of it was how the White House was separated into different sections. There is the east wing and the west wing where President Obama and the First Lady work everyday. I thought it was funny to see how different the two sections were run and how it really adapted to the personality of the person running it. The west wing, where the oval office is, was always moving at a fast pace while the east wing was more relaxed and quiet. Although working or living in the White House has its perks, I still would not want to be a part of it. Having a job in the executive branch means working long hours and having high stress levels. Not to mention most of the people working in the white house do not get paid very well. I also would not want to live in the White House everyday because I think it would become annoying having someone follow you around all the time.
While watching Inside the Obama White House there were numerous tasks that had caught my interest. Seeing the daily hours for each person shocked me for the amount of work they were doing in relations to their pay. The amount of effort put in by each person was incredible, how everyone worked as a huge team seems challenging to me. If one person is slacking then others may have been effected by it. Besides the work load, I also noticed that everyone who works there has long hours. It only makes sense that they would but seeing even secretary’s work is a hard job. I do not think that job would suit my lifestyle. I enjoy being busy, but being busy to the point of insanity wouldn’t work for me. However, there are major perks for working there. Just being able to say you worked at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is amazing. I would have to say I would not like to live at the White House, not now anyway. Maybe in a few years it would be a different experience, but I don’t think that would be a good idea. Being a teenager is hard enough and when you are in the public eye, you have to display a good impression. Embarrassing yourself and the President is just too big of a risk that I am not comfortable with. I’ll admit that I have been caught in stupid antics that are just not acceptable while living at the White House, but it would be pretty cool, besides the whole secret service keeping tabs on you and every single move you make. Overall, it is neat to see in the daily life of President Obama and I would like to visit the White House but I wouldn’t like to work or live there. Who knows, maybe one day that will all change.
Seeing "Inside the White House" was really interesting to me. There were many things that go on in there that I never really thought happened in there. Before seeing the video I was assuming that everyone in the White House would be all about business. I was thinking that it would be a place where everyone is always focused on work 24/7 and that everyone would look really busy. In reality it wasn't exactly like that. Yea, everyone is working but at the same time they are really relaxed. Even Obama, who has some of the biggest responsibilities out of everyone working there. When everyone is not working, they are either taking a breather, listening to music, getting a bite at Five Guys, or enjoying themselves at the basketball court at the White House. Also it seems as a luxury life at the house as well. With all of the different rooms with all of the expensive looking tables, lights, and the portraits, it seems as if it is the home of a very wealthy person. It seems like it would be a great place to live but at the same time it is also an area where thousands of people come to visit. I'm a person who likes to enjoy my privacy and knowing that my house is being visited by so many people would make me a bit uncomfortable. I also wouldn't like working there as well. Yes, it is an amazing experience and it will look fantastic on a resume, but there is too much stress involved and the hours range from 80 to 100 hours a week. With those hours, I wouldn't be able to have some time to myself. I would work all day, go home, rest for a few hours and back to the white I go. But besides those down sides, working at the White House, in my opinion, sounds like the experience of a lifetime. I give the people working at the White House credit for being able to do all that they are able to do. Working in the White House sounds like it would be a crazy experience.
The people inside the white house are always busy and always have something to do. The President himself has to go through the day non stop. It's not something you see everyday, people rushing around one place to help the nation, and keep a good reputation for the US. They are all crazy trying to get things together for a day of work and not get into too much trouble. Its also surprising that both sides of the white house are almost completely different. The President has press conferences and tv interviews and information to retain. The first lady just has certain campaigns to run and keep her side just as busy, but not as heckdeck. Its surprising that they can work around their kid's schedules and can go to everything their kids are in. I wouldn't want to be here only because its not something I'm interested in and I think it would be a bit much for me. Between the work and the media, I wouldn't be able to keep my head on straight.
After watching the clips of the life that President Obama lives in the white house I find it very ammusing. Most of the people working in the white house are very young, and looks like they came straight out of college. I find that extremely suprising because of all the pressure that comes with the jobs. Another interesting thing is that President Obama is going 24/7, and I never really realized how much he deals with everyday. I would not like to live in the white house because of everyone living there, I feel as if i wouldn't have any privacy. Another reason is because I would be terrified to break something and I do easily. My third reason is because of the media being around the house everyday, and they would just annoy me. I would not like to work there either becuase of all the stress and pressure that comes with the job. Even though it would look great on a resume I could not deal with the constant pressure and the 80-100 hour weeks.
I thought the overall life in the White House was very interesting and it was cool to see what a president’s day is like. The most surprising part to me was the amount of workers that were in the White House. I did not know how many people the president had that worked that closely to him. Also these people all had very important jobs. There was not one of them who had an easy job. All the many people working in the White House put an enormous amount of time into their jobs. The White House is an incredible building with so many different sides to it. There is a house, an office building, and a museum all in the same structure. The comfort that would come with living in the White House is almost overwhelming. The size of the house alone would be enough to convince most people that they would want to live there. The part of the White House that I would appreciate is the fact there the different uses of the building are completely separated. This means that the business can be completely forgotten when in the private living area. Living in the White House would include both visitors and private time but with each being completely separate from the other. I would really like the experience of working in the White House, but I would not be able to keep that type of lifestyle for very long. It would be interesting to get a first hand feel for the way that the country is run and be involved in such an important part of the government. The hours that go along with it would make it very difficult for me to stay in a job like that for a long time.
I was really surprised that the offices/rooms were crammed. I always thought that the White House was a lot more spacious inside than it looks outside. I was also amazed to see the big number of people who work there. I would definitely be interested in becoming one of them, if I ever develop a passion for politics or government. I am very certain that all of the people employed inside the White House are either very dedicated to their job, or highly qualified for it. The videos were very interesting, because they made me realize how difficult and fast-paced those employees' jobs are. In addition to being proficient, they also have to be prudent in order to avoid nasty comments from the press. I wouldn't want to live in the White House for this same reason. I'd struggle for my privacy, and even if I have a posh room and a personal movie theater and a hot tub, the thought that hundreds of other people that I don't know are running around in circles in my home would still be terrifying to me.
After viewing "Inside the Obama White House", my perception of what life in the white house is like has significantly changed. I always knew that a good deal of work was completed there, but the rate and intensity of the work and how all employees complete it was crazy. It was constant around the clock stressful work and everyone seemed to be continuously on edge. One thing that was very interesting was how despite everyone seeming jittery, President Obama himself seemed to be very calm and relaxed at all time no matter what. That may just be what's expected as the President but it still seemed impressive considering all of his responsibilities and duties. I would not want to work there under any circumstances. It does open many doors and allow for advancement in other political positions, but I am not interested in politics whatsoever so that job would not benefit me too much. The hours, 80-100 in a week, are way to stressful and long and I don't think I'd have the ability to stay focused for that long and continually put in my best work. Although I would not want to work there, living there would not be bad without any of the presidential responsibilities. It is an extremely nice house with many perks along with it such as the bowling alley and basketball court, and I'm sure the living quarters are much more inviting as a home than the museum-like section of the White House.
After viewing "Inside the Obama White House", I feel that I have had an in depth view of what goes on in the White House from day to day. It was a very interesting topic to learn about and was an interesting interview. Something that I found surprising was how large of a role the media plays in the life of people at the White House. Prior to this film, I was entirely unaware of the extent of the press inside the White House. After watching it, I now know that there can be multiple press conferences a day and that they are held with all different members of the White House. It was also surprising to me because I always figured the White House would try to keep the press away in order to keep matters more private, however, I am now aware that, that is not the case and that the White House allows press to follow them and ask questions at certain times. I would not want to live or work in the White House. While it seems like a very nice place to live, it seemed to me that there is not much privacy for the people that live there. I also feel that there would be no time for family because the families that live there are always working. I would not want to work in the White House because there is no down time and people are always moving. There's so much to do there and the hours are so long, it just seems too exhausting to me. I'm not sure if I would be able to keep up with the speed and projects that occur every day in the White House.
During Obama’s campaign, many of his interns were later asked to work in the White House offices once he was elected. I was very surprised to hear that some of the lower ranking jobs were fulfilled by young men and women who have just come out of college. I would have expected older people working for Obama considering when he was elected he did not have the vast political knowledge of some past presidents. I thought he would have wanted a more experienced staff. I also thought that it was interesting to see the amount of hours everyone puts in each day. They all seem to receive a small salary considering the number of hours that they put in each week. Many people are in work at 7am and leave very late at night Monday through Friday, and often come in on Saturday too. If I had to chance to live in the White House, I don’t think I would like it, especially at this age. I wouldn’t like having to be followed by the Secret Service everywhere I went. I wouldn’t be able to just go out with my friends without it causing a big scene. I would rather have the opportunity to work in the White House because of the great work experience, references that I could get, and the different places that I may be able to travel to.
After watching the clips of “Inside the Obama White House”, I have a new found respect for those who work there and those who live there. I’ve never seen anything about what actually occurs there on a daily basis, and I’m very shocked to see what goes on. I never fully understood just how big the house was, or that they had a separate wing for those who work for the president and those who work for the first lady. Surprisingly, both wings of the house are equally as hectic, and I never knew that many people worked there. As much as I admire the beauty and incredible size of the white house, it isn’t a place I would ever want to live in. Mostly because of all the history that occurred there and because it is partially a museum, I wouldn’t feel comfortable living there. As for working there, I have no interest in that either. Although it would be a once in a life time experience, I don’t think I would be able to handle the hectic schedules they attend to.
“Inside the Obama White House” revealed a lot of new information to me that I had never thought of. The biggest surprise was how busy everyone was inside the White House. The staffers had to wake up extremely early and were stressed out all the time. I had always imagined the White House to be less full of hectic work– I thought most of the work was done in other buildings. However, I had varied -views on the amount of work the president had to do in the White House. While it seemed like he had to go to a lot of meetings, he also had tons of free time and was relatively easy going – he didn’t walk or talk as fast as the other people working there. I also felt that the staffers should receive more recognition for their work, since their jobs are so demanding and they contribute so much. On the other hand, if I were given the opportunity to work there, I would still accept. A chance to work with/for the president is an honor and I would benefit from the connections. Even though the salary is low, I wouldn’t mind, since I’d be spending most of my time working at the White House anyways. The perks from that will probably supplement the salary. What I would dread, if I worked at the White House, is the number of hours. From what I’ve seen in the video, everyone is always doing work and busy. I cannot imagine spending 80 hour weeks in that situation for more than a year. If I were given the opportunity to live there without having to do any work, I’d definitely accept. We didn’t see the living quarters of the White House in the video, but I know it is nice. The service there is probably also impeccable and I would indulge in the food the chefs made. The recreational activities available at the White House are also quite nice, and I would love having a movie theater and a basketball court.
After getting a better look at President Obama's daily life in this special, I was really amazed by the sheer volume of responsibility that rests on one man. He has to attend meetings and briefings all day, and although he has help from Rahm Emmanuel and the rest of his staff, they still all report to him. Having to be on top of that much material is such a daunting and incredibly high-stress job--I think if they showed this in elementary schools there would be a lot less 8 year olds saying they want to be President when they grow up. However, although the country seems to depend so much on this one man, I found it interesting that he is in fact a man like anyone else. He goes to Five Guys, he cares for his daughters and his dog, and he prefers a private study to the Oval Office. I liked how down-to-earth he seemed in this video. I also really liked the segment on Mrs. Obama. She seems to be such a genuinely well-rounded, caring, and supportive mother figure for not only her daughters but for all the children of the US. She campaigns for healthy eating and self-esteem in kids; I loved her quote about focusing on what kids can do instead of what they can't. She holds her own worth in the White House and the country independent of her husband and I really respect her for that. I could NEVER work in an environment like that. The pressure and stress that comes with that level of responsibility would burn me out in a week. I understand it's usually a temporary job in order to make networks, and it would be HUGE privilege, but it simply wouldn't be worth it to me to give up every other aspect of my life for a job. I wouldn't particularly want to live there either, because of the public eye (and the secret service) constantly watching. I appreciate my privacy too much, and I wouldn't want to be subjected to possible media criticism like Chelsea Clinton was on SNL.
Inside the Obama White House was a very interesting video to watch. Prior to watching the video I had not known what goes on inside. To be honest I did not think that it was that hectic with all of the staff running around the West Wing. What mainly surprised me was that even though it was in constant chaos, they still managed to function 100 percent all the time. I also did not realize how many people worked in the White House. I have seen it from the outside and it does not look as big but seeing it from the inside I gained a whole new perspective. Seeing how many people it took to run the entire place, from the President all the way down to the cooks. I would not like to live or work in the White House after seeing this video. I would not want to live there because to live there I would have to be the President and I personally do not want to hold that office if I were to go into politics. What I learned from this video is that being the President or working for the President is not what it seems like to the outside people, it is not as glamorous as one would think. I would not like to work there either. Seeing all of the staffers constantly in motion runnign around for up to 14 hours a day is not my cup of tea. I honestly do not think it would be worth the salary to do that.
Until watching this video, I was very skeptical about the White House. I knew that it was one of the nation's historic monuments, that it doubled as a museum and the home/workplace of the president, and that it was lavish and decorated. However, I had no idea of what actually took place inside. At first, it seemed to me like a quiet mansion, but upon viewing "Inside Obama's White House," it became clear that this was not the case. In addition to the list above, I learned that the White House also serves as the conference room for the President's meetings and that it was also the site for televised broadcasts. Additionally, I was astonished at the number of people that the White House employed and how young most of these employees were. The White House is surprisingly alive with activity. There are many employees, all of whom are constantly working. It became obvious that a job at the White House is very demanding mentally, physically, and in terms of time, which explains why the staff is so young.
This being said, a job at the White House fascinates me. It is a one of kind opportunity to gain experience and work ethic. Plus, it is a chance to work along side the President! Though life of a White House employee would be arduous and the pay minuscule, I believe that the the rewards of such an opportunity are worth the price.
After watching “Inside the Obama White House”, I was surprised to see the extremely rapid pace of activity in the office area. Prior to seeing this special, I had never realized how much work actually goes on in the White House every day; however, after getting a glimpse into a day in the life of the President and his workers, my perception completely changed. I was surprised to see the ridiculously long hours put in by each and every worker in the White House, as well as the dizzying numbers of tasks performed on a daily basis. Seeing the craziness and constant stress of working in the White House, I was able to better understand how demanding and mentally taxing it must be to hold the position of President of the United States. At every second of the day, it seems that at least ten different people are vying for the President’s attention and bombarding him with an important issue. Though I would personally never be willing to hold such a position, Obama seems to be handling the pressures of the office well. As for working in the White House in general, I would not want to be a part of the stressful atmosphere and government life that the job would encompass. Also, living in the White House, though it does have its perks, is not very appealing to me. It would be nice to have a gourmet meal cooked everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I’m sure that the living quarters are very comfortable and much quieter than the offices, but I think it would be weird to live in a place that also serves as a functioning museum.
Before watching "Inside the Obama White House" there were many inner workings I was not aware of. I was unaware of how young and hard working the staff really is. Working 80+ hours a week is amazing and must take a great deal of dedication. I didn't realize how easily the plans for the day could be changed, even by a small remark. Although working at the White House would be an amazing, once in a life time experience, that would be amazing for networking, I do not think I would work at the White House. My field of study (pharmacy) would have nothing to do with anything done at the White House. Even though I would love the hard working and fast paced environment, I can not see myself working there when I will be 200k in debt by the end of my education, and the salary made there would not satisfy my debt as effectively as working as a pharmacist.
By watching the video "Inside the Obama White House" I learned many new and interesting things about the life styles that President Obama and his staff have. I was somewhat shocked by the amount of people it takes to run the White House and how fast pace each person has to work (no wonder why they are all so young!). Everyone's job's seem to have so many surprises and unplanned obstacles that they have to deal with on a day to day basis; which is one of the reasons I would not care to work in the White House. I thought that it was surprising that Obama can take surprise outings to places like Five Guys and do that by taking the flags and badges off of his car. I liked that they showed what the first lady was doing as well and the responsibilities that she takes on. I like how we got to see what a day in the life of Mrs. Obama would be like. For example, garden planting with a school and hearing about going to her daughters soccer games. I thought that it was so interesting how different they presented the West Wing versus the East Wing. The West Wing seemed much more chaotic and had a bowl of M&Ms in every room. The East Wing however, was much more calm and had lavender plants in every room. I think the White House is too chaotic for me to want to live there. I like my home to be quiet and have a more sanctuary feel to it; whereas the White House is so busy and has so many staff members walking in and out. I wouldn't be interested in working at the White House either because as I said earlier I wouldn't be able to stand the endless amounts of surprises that comes with the job and how you go into your day planning on following a set schedule and one conflict could change it all. I also like to get eight hours of sleep every night so the whole 7:30 a.m.- 11:00 p.m. work schedule would definitely not work with me.
"Inside the Obama White House" gave me new insight into the daily lives of the people working and living in the white house. It has always seemed that the white house is just a glamorous house where the president lives, however that is not the case. It serves as an office, meeting room, history museum, and a home for the presidential family. A lot goes on each and every day in the white house, following a detailed and structured schedule. What surprised me the most while watching this video is how involved the media was in the daily life of the president. Depending on certain events going on, the president could have multiple press conferences in one day. Also, the media is constantly firing questions at the employees of the white house, causing them to constantly be on guard and ready to respond. When anything controversial occurs, such as the comment made by Justice Sotomayor, the media was first to hear Obama's defense claims advocating that the comment was not meant to be taken negatively. I would have assumed that the president would not be constantly crowded by the media, instead kept far away from reporters. However, in the film it became obvious that the president keeps the media very informed.
I would not want to work in the white house for several reasons. The long hours and low pay do not sound very appealing, especially because the type of work I would be doing is chaotic and at most times very stressful. Also, I am not very interested in politics, so working in the white house does not sound like a very pleasant choice for employment.
After watching the Inside the Obama White House clips I found interesting that there is always work being done in the White House. I feel as though President Obama does not really get a break and he is always moving through the East and West wings. I was surprised that President Obama had the time to go to Five Guys when he has so much to do while running the country. Also, I think it was very nice to see the First Lady helping the children plant the flowers in the garden at the White House. I was surprised that there is not always a garden outside of the White House, but the First Lady wanted to have one. I did not think that so many people worked in the White House with the president; the amount of people was surprising to me. I found it interesting that Obama’s daughters are some of few children that have lived in the White House before. I would like to live in the White House for a short amount of time. I do not think that I could live there for several years because I would not want to live in a museum and office building as my house. It would not feel like a comfortable home, I feel as though I would be afraid to touch things in the house. I would definitely want to experience living there for a few months though. I would be interested in working there because it would be a great experience and I would like to feel apart of the president. I think it would be cool to say that I work in the White House and I help the president get work done for our country. The White House is always busy and it would be very stressing mentally and physically, but getting to work along side the president would be a once and a life time chance. Since there would be a lot of pressure and responsibility, I do not think that I would want to work there a long amount of time. Although I would not have time for my personal life, I think it would be a great opportunity.
In watching Brian Williams report from the White House, I was absolutely amazed at the amount of "bustle" that goes on on any given day. I understood that a lot of political planning goes on within those hallowed halls, but until seeing it in real time, I didn't realize the sheer enormity of what was going on. Hundreds of staffers, at all times, have to assess the political going-ons on the day, coordinate meetings, make phone calls to secure support, and essentially triage every headline in America. The West Wing literally looks like a maze, with everyone running in different directions to complete a different task. In addition, the lightness that some staffers maintained in the face of this stress was amazing; to see President Obama taking hamburger orders, and have his staff constantly eating m&m's and blasting music, really put into perspective for me that personality and humanity are essential to reacting in a way that connects to the American people. I've come away from this viewing with a new respect for the White House staff.
However, there is no way I would want to live there; as the center of what is perhaps the most advanced strategic planning in the world, I don't think I would want to live at the White House. No matter how large the property, and no matter how separated the West Wing and the President's home are, the thought of spending most of my home life so close to the symbolic and strategic center of the "free world" is a little too weighty for me. That being said, I would take a job as a staffer in an instant. The high-pressure atmosphere excites me, and to fill a niche in a cooperative net of workers that influence international politics is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I've done plenty door-to-door canvassing and phone-calling in the past few years; it would be interesting to see how much politics explodes when your constituents have increased one-millionfold.
After watching "Inside the White House" I now have a much better understanding of what goes on, and how stressful it could be at times. I think it was neat because I have never really seen or watched about the white house so it was my first time actually seeing the whole house and how it process's. I think that the East and West side are two completely different worlds. On one side it's always business, people are alway moving, and talking. There are many conferences going on all day about all the current issues and whats going on. I realize now that everybody who works there always has something to do, theres never really nobody not doing any. Even the president, hes always being interviewed and is always going to conferences in different rooms. Obama is interviewed a lot in the blue room witch is to the left of the red room. After seeing a daily life of the white house it definitely changes my view on the staff. Once we started watching the second half of it, it explained what the First Lady does and what its like to be her for a day. The First Lady balances his time between her children and business. She had said in the movie that her children always come first. At times she wouldn't do any conferences, interviews, or anything that had to do with business. She would dedicate her week to her children. While not being with her children she is always with students from different schools all around. She also enjoys planting gardens with the students as an activity to do to meet all of them and get to know them. When you go on the Obamas home its peaceful, nobody running around or doing anything. It was as if it was regular home. In Obamas spare time he would hit the court and exercise a little. He recently painted lines on the tennis cout and put in removable hoops to pay. He said he likes to get out there a couple times a week. In my opinion I would love to live there. The house is surrounded a by a very nice and peaceful scenery. If you ever wanted some private time you can go outside and go work on the garden, or go play basketball at the basketball court. Beside all that Obama still finds enough time to spend with his wife and 2 daughters as they go many vacations and more to come.
I knew being the president is not an easy job but after seeing this video I have realized how much work is put in. This gave me a better understanding and more respect for what the president does for our country. I could never imagine doing the kind of planning and organizing day in and day out. A lot of weight is put on Obama’s shoulders and if not for his staff there would be an overwhelming amount of work to handle. What surprised me the most was the long hours put in. Arriving as early as 6:00 and staying as late as 11:00 is way to long of a workday.
As nice and as big of an honor it would be to work in the white house, I would never accept this job. I simply could not handle these hours. Another issue white house members commonly had, was not being able to see their families. I would be a horrible father if I came home every night and my kids were already off to bed. I see why most people choose not to keep their jobs for very long. I think it is remarkable that Rahm Emanuel had chose to stay in the white house and keep things running for a second term. It takes large sacrifice to give up time with his family back home in Chicago in order to help his country and our president.
The video about how the white house runs on daily basis was really interesting to me. I had thought that the white house has simple design. After watching this video, I became aware of that my assumption was wrong. The inside structure of white house was actually very sophisticated and exquisite. Other interesting part was that the white house splits into two segments which are east wing and west wing. It was kind of ironic that the ambience of east wing and west wing was different a lot even though they are under same roof. I did not know there was also room for first lady too. I thought the first lady lives in apartment near the white house. Clip that showed President Obama buys his lunch and one for other staffs by himself was something out of box to me. I used to think that staff members would do that kind of work not President. Most interesting part was that most white house members including President were under great amount of stress and pressure. I never anticipated that working in the white house will be hard and this would be even more arduous than regular company life. This clip completely broke my assumption of easygoing life in the white house. Although staff member's enthusiasm and their willingness to dedicate themselves to government was very inspirational, i would not work in the white house. They were totally devoted into their work and this made them barely have personal time. It seemed that white house staff members were under the condition that did not allow them to have enough amount of individual time. Sometimes i must have opportunity to refresh my brain and mind by hanging out with friend or spending time with family. Otherwise, i will do poor job in the workplace.
Watching Inside the Obama White House was a very interesting and educational video. This inside look at the day to day operation of the white house was very eye opening to me. I Honestly had no idea how much actually takes place in the white house. The west wing is a very hectic place, everyone has a task to do and they have to do it fast and right. Working in the white house has to be a very stressful job the work load is insane and the hours are awful, some of staff work from 7am to 7-11pm. These crazy hours can really take a toll on a person which is why the white house staff is made up of young men and women usually right out of college. These young people are capable of working the long hours day after day. Another thing that I learned about the white house is the role that the media plays in the day to day operation. I didn't realize it but the white house holds press conferences everyday with different white house staff to address the media. The white house also runs its own youtube page where the president is able to address the American people. However we cant forget that the white house is also a home. The president and his family enjoy the luxurious life of living in the east wing where they can live a private life away from the rest of the white house. I would not want to work in the white house it looks like too stressful of a job in a very stressful work environment and on top of all that there are awful hours and low pay.

When I was younger all I wanted to do was become president and live in the White House but after watching the video I'm not too sure about that dream. Seeing all of the daunting tasks that Obama has to deal with on a daily basis was almost tough to watch, let alone deal with. I was really surprised at how jam packed everything looked in the White House and how many people were coming and going and moving around at almost every second of the day. Living in the White house would be pretty interesting simply because it's basically a museum of our presidents. Working in the White House would definitely be very interesting, but I definitely would not want all of the grey hairs that come with the job. So the bottom line is that although I would like to live in the White House all of the work and pressure would just be a little too much for me.
The movie that we watched about the Obama White House was a very interesting one indeed. I found it very interesting how many people that work in the administration are young and fresh out of college. This makes sense though because it seemed like a VERY high stress job, and older people generally wouldn't be able to handle the huge workload that younger people can (usually 80+ hour work weeks). I thought it was really cool to see an inside view of never before seen daily operations of the White House, especially the different (East and West) wings. The administrative West wing is always the one shown, but the more "homely" East wing is always cool to see because it shows what it's like to have the White House as a home. I personally would think it would be weird to live there because it would creep me out having my house double as a museum. As for working at the White House, that looks like a job option that I don't see myself doing anywhere in the near future, do to the very high strung environment. Having to deal with the press all day in my workplace on top of the normal stress levels from the work itself would become SO tiring over time, and I am also not even that interested in politics to begin with.
After being able to experience what truly goes on “Inside the Obama White House”, many of my previous assumptions about the inner workings of the White House have been completely discredited, while others remain plausible. For instance, I’ve always thought the White house staff and the President would have to conduct themselves in such a manner that they would never be able to drop crumbs on the floor of the oval office or be able to put their feet up on their desk during such economic, political and military turmoil. However, the Obama administration really surprised me in their ability to stay cool calm and collected under what many would agree upon is the most difficult, high stressed job out there. I found it fascinating how Obama and his employees would pass around a basketball or chew on some m&m’s while thinking on how to implement an entire new health care system. I think I’m now able to appreciate the minds of political geniuses that create national reforms, and then have the skill and capacity to execute their decisions which directly affect millions of Americans. Personally, I would love to work in the White House, under Obama specifically though. I love the responsibility that a job in the White House would entail, I’d only enjoy how I would have others counting on me and the stature of whatever position I would have (just because it’s in the White House). I would definitely appreciate working alongside such amazing thinkers and bright people which would only affect my ability to be decisive and thorough for the better. However, I would definitely not like to live in the White House full time. At least half of the priceless antiques would be broken the first week knowing my luck, and also I would rather get a good night’s sleep rather than checking my closet every night for Abraham Lincoln’s ghost.
I think "Inside the Obama white house" was a very interesting video. I felt it was very good to see all of what happens behind the scenes in the white house. I thought it was pretty impressive to see what large staff works on a day to day basis in the white house. I feel it is good for the American people to see all the work that goes on in the white house because it really shows how hard people are working to try and make this country better every day. I also felt that the video had a very interesting take on the president. For example, when the president took a trip to five guys, it showed that he is not afraid to step away from the white house once in a while and just be a normal average guy.
I would enjoy living in the white house because all though the house is basically open to the public because it is a museum. The house itself is beautiful and there is a separate living area for the family which would be enough for me. Also the architecture and the landscape was well designed although there may be some houses that are bigger and nicer built in the private sector no one would have to go looking for your house it would be a pretty easy address to find. If i were offered a job within the white house i would take my time considering the benefits and stress of working in such an environment. On one hand the people you meet and the things you see would be a once in a life time opportunity, but having to work 80+ hours a week would not be idea for me. I would much rather have a full time job and still have time for myself and for my interest. I think that the worse part would be not being able to spend time with anyone you care about because even if you did have time you would be too tired to do anything anyways. The white house was very interesting to learn about mainly the president himself. When you see him speak he seems so serious but when they were video taping within the white house he seemed very cheery and was trying to keep all this staff in a good mood which would be a fantastic attitude for every boss to have. With all the stress of working in the white house having a boss who is able to put a happy spin on things would be appreciated.
Watching Inside the Obama White House, was an interesting take on the Obama's lifestyle. What I thought was very interesting was how young the people who work at the white house are. The job itself seems impossible, they seem to always be in motion, never stopping, and never taking a break. What I learned is that you need to be tough to endure a job like working for Obama in the white house. I would not be able to live in the white house or work there. My reasons for not living there would because there would be too much pressure to not break anything. My reasons for not wanting to work there, are that there would be too many hours that I would have to work, and not be able to enjoy my job. I would obviously be unable to work there for a long time, and my future job may not even be in that field of work. Although a recommendation from the president would be valuable, I would be unable to endure a job in the white house.
It's not every day that you get to take a look into the going-on's of the White House and I found NBC's look to be very interesting. I just found it surprising how much security it always following around the president, although, in retrospect, it's probably not considering how important he is to our nation. It was also just...depressing thinking about the place, filled with staffers who last only a year and high ranking politicians toiling away, often unable to even see their family like Rahm Emannuel.
On the flip side, it was equally surprising to see how normal the President's life could be amongst all the hustle and bustle of the White House. Despite living in one of America's most prominent landmarks, the Obamas seem to still lead a very normal family life. Mr. Obama is still able to spend time with his children, shoot some hoops on a basketball court that he installed and even attend parent-teacher conferences for his two children, a prospect I imagine most teachers would probably find a bit frightening.
Personally, the White House is a place I'd love to live in. Not only is it home to some of the most famous antiques from all throughout American history, it's also staffed by a slew of waiters and world-class cooks, all for your personal enjoyment. Admittedly, being followed around by the Secret Service isn't the most appealing prospect, but I think the pros probably outweigh the cons. Working there however is something that I'd personally never subscribe to. 80 hour weeks aren't really my thing, no matter how good of a work reference I could get from it. It just doesn't seem like a good tradeoff. Not only that, but the pressure that you'd face knowing that your nation is depending on you isn't something easily deal with.
After viewing inside the white house I am in shock at the lengths that are taken to ensure the presidents comfort. For example one thing I found most surprising is the way that the president travels. He has 2 airplanes always ready to fly. They are fully stocked for a full crew with food, places to sleep and the most extensive technology available. Although it must be very nice to have all the things that the president is provided with. I feel that over all most of it is unnecessary.

Now, I knew that there was a lot of artifacts within the White House, but it was interesting in seeing what President Obama thought was most interesting
As for living within the white house, or having a job that was associated with the average day of the president, I personally wouldn't want to be a part of it.

P.S. Sorry this is really late.
