The 2010 midterm elections were… entertaining. Overall I’m upset, but that’s mostly because Jimmy McMillan did not win in the New York gubernatorial race. The major offices up for grabs in Connecticut were the Governor’s office and one Senate seat, as well as many local government positions. The race that most affected Connecticuters (it’s a word even if Microsoft Word doesn’t think so) without actually being in Connecticut was for a Nevada Senate seat since Majority Leader Harry Reid’s position was strongly challenged. Obviously every house seat in the country was contested.

The Republican Party now controls the House of Representatives. The Democrats maintained a majority in the Senate, although Republicans did take some seats. The effect of the 2010 midterm elections on Obama’s agenda is that now he has a better excuse for not making progress on any of the platforms he ran on. For the past two years the Senate refused to do anything without turning politics into an idiotic, overdramatic media frenzy, and the House has almost always been the less partisan branch. Maybe there will be some compromise. I doubt it. Whatever happens don’t blame me; I didn’t vote.

During the midterm elections, offices such as the state senate and congress where up for grabs. Many Republicans won for the congress and this could affect Obama’s plans for the future. Many of those republicans disagree with the president ideas and actions. If they choose to disapprove his decisions, then nothing will get done in the white house. This also can cause the people of the U.S to vote for a republican in the next election for president. President Obama needs to find a way to get things done and the economy back on track.

During the midterm election, members of Congress, including all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, and the full terms for 33 or 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate were held up for grabs. As a result of the election, the Republicans have seized control of the house from the Democrats while the Democrats have a slight majority in the Senate. Because Obama is a Democrat, the now Republican house will likely do everything in their power to prevent Obama from making any reform that may lessen or worsen the effects of the recession without consent from the Republicans. Whatever major reform Obama may want to institute will now have to be compromised by the Republicans, which means Obama's power as a president has been weakened.

Across the nation, every seat in the House of Representatives was up for grabs along with 1/3 of the Senate seats, 39 Governor seats, and a slew of seats on the state level. Due to the election results, Republicans are now have the majority in the House of Representatives while in the Senate, there are 49 Democrats, 2 independents, and the rest are Republicans. Because the Republicans have control of the House of Representatives, they get to choose what legislation comes up for a vote which means Obama’s agenda will be brought to a halt. In the Senate, the Republicans filibustered 89% of the legislation proposed during the first 2 years of Obama’s administration. Now that the Democrats don’t have the ability to get 60 votes without Republican support, partisan politics will also bring the Senate to a halt. The result of the Elections in 2012 will depend on whether the public sees that the Republicans are playing typical political games by blocking all legislation so they can say that Obama hasn’t done anything. Political games will now be more dominant than ever.

But on the state level Dan Malloy is the Governor-elect (woot!) and both the House and Senate are controlled by Democrats. The rest of the offices in the Executive Branch of the State Government are also controlled by Democrats. On the state level, Democrats will be able to put into practice their plans as long as there is no infighting amongst the Democrats which could occur. If Obama wants to enact change, he should target governments at the state level and help promote legislation at the state level because if he wants to help improve the economy, that is the only way he will be able to do it because the federal government will be frozen.

Every time there is an election there is always a thing wrong with it by the president. This year Barack Obama has a lot of trouble ahead of him. Due to the fact that he is a democrat and now has to deal with the republican, he is hoping that they are willing to do things that he wants to do and doesn't have to worry about it. Republicans and democrats don't have the same agreements. So I think that Obama is just worried that America is gonna have a lot more issues due to this election. But then again it may not happen, something else. People that won the election is willing to do anything that will help America make it a better place

This past November the midterm elections were held. For this election the offices open were for the senate, the House of Representatives, and the governor. After the election Republicans gained seats in the senate and now control the majority of the House. Since Obama is a democrat this will alter his future plans. Many Republicans plan to stop any action the president takes since they do not agree with his policies. By doing so they will stop any progress causing the people to feel that Obama is not following through with his campaign promises. In turn the majority may not vote for Obama in the next election, allowing a Republican to take his spot. This leaves Obama in a hard position because he will now need to please the Republicans if he plans to accomplish anything. His believes will need to compromised to overcome the Republican majority from halting any work.

<Wow, what a great election season! The offices that were up for grabs were, notably, Senator, House of Representatives, state senate, state house of representatives, governor, attorney general, and lots more! The Republicans have control of the House of Representatives, oh no! (If you're a liberal, that is.) The Senate is controlled by the Democrats, oh no! (If you're a conservative, that is.) This might influence Obama's Presidential agenda because of the Republican influence. It sure is hard to pass radical new health care legislation when there is a significant percentage of dissenting members in one of the houses of congress!3

This midterm election was full of drama and had a lot going on because numerous offices were up for grabs. The congress, 1/3 of the senate seats, district representatives, State governor, state secretary, probate judges…just about everyone except the president. In Connecticut many former office holders were retiring as well, allowing room for new incumbents to run for office. The Republicans took over control of the House of Representatives while the democrats barely hung on to control of the Senate. These results are seen by many as a disapproval of what Obama is doing in office. This election saw many independents vote in favor of the GOP. These results are going to greatly affect Obama’s Presidential Agenda. If he thought that it was difficult to get proposals passed before, it would be even harder now. The republican majorities will most likely work against Obama, making his life all the more difficult so that the policies that he wishes to input, such as the healthcare reform, would involve a great deal more work and convincing.

Here in Connecticut senate and governor positions were up for grabs. Here as well as the rest of the country tended to sympathize more with republicans after the democrats failure these last few years. The balance of power was originally leaning democratic but after these elections the republicans took the house and lost a good portion of their senate seats. Many of their governor positions were also lost. In all republicans now hold much more power in government then they previously had. The senate now 51 democrats to 46 republicans is much more evenly balanced then previously when the democrats held a larger majority. With 1/3 of the senate seats up for grabs many voters chose republican candidates. For Obama this means he loses even more control of the government making it less likely his legislation will be passed. An overall reactionary effort by the people in turn loosens Obama’s hold on government. Now Obama must fight harder to push his legislation and his ideals. The problem is with the government all tied up nothing can be done one way or the other. Now Obama’s agenda will continually be checked and the senate will be unable to pass democratic legislation as easily.

The officers that ran for the midterm election were Blumenthal, Mcmahon, Esty, Malloy, Foley, and a lot more. The offices that were up for grabs were 435 seats. After the 2010 election, the Democrats kept their position in the Senate while the Republicans took control of the House of Representatives. This affects President Obama's Presidential Agenda because now since the Republicans have taken over, now they won't agree as much with Obama and he can't agree with the laws as much and he can't pass laws as easy through the House of Representatives. Also, he might be getting worried that the Republicans are taking over the Senate too because even though the Democrats are in control of it, they sill lost the majority of it.

The midterm elections ended up great for the republicans because they took over the house and took a lot of power back from the democrats in the senate. But unfortunately the democrats still hold the majority power in the senate. This midterm election restricted Obama's presidential agenda because he is a democrat and when he try's to pass a law there will not be as many people that agree with him so he will not pass anything.

There were several seats in the house, and one seat in senate as well as the office of governor of Connecticut. And now that the midterm elections are done, the republicans have a majority in the house and the democrats hold about 53 seats in senate and the republicans 47. This will affect Obama's ability as chief legislator and his public image, with a majority of republicans now in the house it will be harder for Obama to pass any form of legislation that republicans would not approve of and he would have to make more concessions in order to get anything passed. This would affect his public image because there are already many people who are dissatisfied with him as a president and how he has not fulfilled his promises to the people of America and will grow even more irritated as the house prolongs the passing of any form of legislation.

In the recent midterm election, the offices that were up for election were 1/3 of the Senate's seats, and multiple seats in the House of Representatives. A new Speaker of the House was also elected. Previously, the Speaker of the House was a democrat, but the new one is a republican. The republicans gained control of the House of Representatives, while the democrats are still in control of the Senate. President Obama will probably have a harder time getting bills and other parts of his agenda passed now because the republican party has more control than they did previously. It will be harder and take longer to pass anything now. Since the House of Representatives have a republican majority and the Senate has a democratic majority, they will probably rarely agree.

The midterm elections was mostly over powered by the Republic party. The republics gained more seats in the senate. Which has raised some issues. Obama is a Democratic and most of the house is republic could affect how things are decided. There is still more Democratic s in the House of Representatives. The election overall had many changes and has brought more Republicans in and kicked out Democrats.

The offices open in Connecticut for the mid-term election were a Senate, House, and governor position. After the election the Democrats gained control of the Senate and the Republicans gained control of the House.
These results complicate Obama's Presidential Agenda. Because no party has control over both the Senate of the House, it will be difficult for them to agree on issues and successfully pass bills. Therefore, Obama's Agenda will slow down and it will be much harder for him to make changes.

The offices that were open include, senator, house representative, and governor. The republicans are in control of the house and the democrats are in control of the senate. This will affect President barack obama's agenda because if he proposes a law or bill the senate and house have to have a 2/3 vote to pass it. And if there are more republicans than democrats than obama will have a hard time getting it passed due to the fact that republicans usually have different views on issues than democrats. This election will make the rest of obama's term interesting.

This year’s midterm elections were more eventful than usual. There were many positions that were being contested. Seats for the House of Representative were up for grabs as per usual. In Connecticut, the office of governor, one senator, secretary of state, attorney general, and state senate. The Republicans took control of the House of Representatives. However, the Democrats still have the majority in the US Senate. In Connecticut, all new members elected to the house are Democrats.
These election results will absolutely be a detriment to Obama’s presidential agenda. It is likely that he will get little done because the Republicans are able to stop him. They will work this to their advantage, and make it seem as though Obama is doing nothing, so that he doesn’t get re-elected. Obama himself is doubtful that pushing through his “change” will be possible. The current degree of US partisanship has clouded the essential purpose of a two-party system - to ensure that all views of the people are represented. Instead, it has become a competition to be on top and dominate all affairs, or at lease hinder the other party from doing so. As long as this philosophy continues, it will prevent progress and effective problem solving.

The Midterm elections this year were intensive. There were tons of slanderous commercials in which candidates like Blumenthal and McMahon bashed each other. The governors race in CT was especially heated because it was too close to be sure until several days after the election. The offices up for grab were Senate, House, and Governor. The Republicans gained control of the House of Representatives while the Democrats retained their power in the Senate. I believe that the results of the election with prove to be a hindrance to Obama’s Presidential Agenda. Without a Democrat majority in both Houses of Congress, passing laws and pushing things through Congress will prove to be much more difficult.

Unknown said...

The offices that were up for grabs were all the House of Representatives, 1/3 of the Senate and quite a few Governorships. Included in these was the race for senate in CT and the race for governor. As a results of these races the Republicans have regained control of the House after 4 years and gained quite a few seats in the Senate but the Democrats still retain control of the Senate. This greatly impacts Obama's policies because he no longer has a favorable House and no longer a super majority in the Senate. So now he must try to work with Republicans if he wants to get something done.

The 2010 election was held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, with at least 36 of the 100 seats in the Senate being contested and all U.S. House seats up for election. After sweeping victories, Republicans will control at least 239 seats in the House of Representatives in the next Congress, eliminating a previous Democratic majority. In the Senate, the Democratic majority will remain with a 53-46 advantage. this comes as a disadvantage to obama because now it will be more difficult for him to work with the house of representitives because they have a republican majority

Sam Whelan said...

The offices up for grab were senate seats, House seats, and Governor. The Democrats won the Senate and the Republicans won the House. Obama's legislation will now be hard pressed to make it through both the Senate and House, if it even can. This will cause a standstill that will make Obama look bad and through that standstill Republicans hope to win the Presidency next election.

Unknown said...

As a result of the midterm elections, the Republicans have seized control of the House of Representatives while the Democrats have captured the Senate. The positions originally up for grabs were those of select senators and house members who had outrun their allotted terms and state governor posts, along with some other state/local positions. The resulting congressional split will more than likely create an overwhelming roadblock for Obama's presidential agenda, since the house is expected to deny any liberal legislation, leaving the United States Government at a standstill for the next two years.

During the midterm elections, many offices were up for reelection. This included Senate, Governor, House of Representatives, Secretary of State, Comptroller, Attorney General, and Treasurer. After the November elections, the party leanings are as follows. Senate: Democrats= 51 Republicans= 46 House of Representatives: Democrats= 189 Republicans= 239. The results show that the election swayed to the republican side at least with the House of Representatives. Because of this, President Obama will have to work even harder to not only set in his agenda, but maintain all the work he has done so far. It will be hard to make sure that the republican leanings won’t help revoke some of the laws he has supported. Also, it is also true that President Obama will have less support behind him in the legislative branch. This will obviously cause problems, and thus his presidential agenda could be slowed down or even halted. In order to stay successful on what he was to get done, he must reach compromises with the other party. However, on some issues compromise is definitely a sticky situation and to concede on any part of his side will be detrimental to a lot of his supporters. But, if he doesn’t get anything done because of the lack of negotiation, a lot of people will still criticize him and exclaim that he hasn’t gotten much done which was the own point of his platform, change. Obama, is definitely in a tight spot, but the conflicts aren’t unlike many of his predecessors as President.

Unknown said...

The republicans gain power in the senate, the house, and the governor seats also. Obama can’t do anything because his government is republican and he is a democrat. Obama cannot pass a legislative law because the senate is democrat and the house is republican. So therefore they are half and half. Capitol Hill is in control of the House of Representatives. Rep. Spencer Bachus is in control of the senate right now. Im not sure if it would change Obama’s agenda cause these mid terms elections are big and if a republican gets in then just maybe they will change Obama’s plans right around.

In the 2010 midterm election the offices for state representative, governor, state senate, as well as U.S. senate and congress seats were up for grabs. The outcomes of this election have made the Republican Party in control of the House, while the Democrats keep control of the Senate. Since the House now has a Republican majority this will make the legislation Democratic President, Barack Obama is trying to push though very difficult to get approved. Therefore by controlling the House the Republican Party controls the legislation Obama can pass.

The office's that were being voted for in the midterm elections were; congress, house of represenatives, united states senate, as well as the governers for each state. Republicans are now control the house of represenatives. But the democrats have majority of the senate. Obama will face an issue with having the republicans having majority of the house. Because they dont agree with his decisions they are going to vote against him and not allow him to pass laws and technically make decisions for the next to year. There goal is to just keep moving through the next to years so that he doesnt get reelected again.

The offices that were up for grab for the midterm election were the senate, the house of representatives, and governors. The republicans took charge of the House of Representatives and the democrats are in charge of the senate. The election results affect President Obama's agenda because Obama is a democrat and with the increased number of republicans now in office, it will be more difficult for him to get things done. Many of the new bills that the President will try to pass will not be passed very easily because they will have to go through the House of Representatives which is now run by Republicans. It will make the presidents agenda slow and things will take a long time to get accomplished. Overall, the midterm elections were very interesting.

In the mid-term elections, a large number of U.S. House of Representatives seats and U.S. Senate seats were open as well as governors. The Republicans won control of the House of Representatives, while the Democrats still have control of the U.S. Senate, just with fewer seats than before.
This will be harder for Obama to forward his agenda because the Republicans in control of the House of Representatives are less likely to pass his legislation. In fact, the are already trying to overturn the health care reform.

I was pretty please with the results of the elections. The republicans now control the house of representatives but the democrats still control most of the senate. Unfortunately Linda did not win for CT but there were many republicans who won across the nation so I was pleased in the end.

Because of how many republicans won, it only goes to show how people are doubting Obama and are realizing that putting a democrat into office might have been a bad idea. Now when Obama or the senate wants to pass a law or bill it will probably go around in a circle before anything is passed or not.

Previously the democrats had control in the both the House and Senate so passing legislation was easier. Pretty much all government positions were up for grabs, including Congress, 1/3 of the senate, district representatives, state secretaries, State governors, and probate judges.
The republicans took over control of the house while the democrats held on for a majority in the senate. These expected results have much to do with dislike of President Obama's work. Since the Democrats do not have a majority in both houses it will be very hard for President Obama to pass any legislation. The republicans will work hard to block all legislation with Democratic ideas. Many people consider these next 2 years to be a lameduck period because its expected that nothing will be done. Overall the mid term elections were a disappointment for the Democrats and a win for the Republicans.

In the midterm elections, both the Governors office and a seat in the Senate were avalible for Connecticut. The Repulbicans now control the House of Representatives, which will cause major conflict and slow down the progress of Obama's administration. This is because the Republicans do not agree with Obama, and so Obama will not be able to follow through with any promises he has made previously during this campaign. This will make Obama look bad to the public, and will cause major conflict. The democrats do control the Senate for the most part now, which will lead to interesting debates. The mid term elections held in November definitely had some controversial results.

There was a lot up for grabs this election. Included in the list was a third of the Senate, 39 Governors, and the entire House of Representatives. Previous to these elections, the House of Representatives had a Democratic majority. However, that majority has now switched to Republican which will definitely make Obama's job a lot more difficult since the Republicans will most likely, not agree with his Democratic policies. Thankfully for Obama, the Senate has still held onto its Democratic majority. The reason for the Republicans taking more control may be the people not agreeing with the work Obama has done thus far. He has had a difficult presidency, especially with all the media constantly picking at his every move. It is not easy to say the least and he should be given more credit than people think. He is in for an even more challenging year, especially when passing legislation. It seems his ever popular health care bill will not be signed this year…

All together, the 2010 elections went rather smoothly. The governor seat and senate seat in Connecticut were appropriately filled in my opinion. Dick Blumenthal is more than suitable for the job in Washington. Also Dan Malloy will serve as a fine governor. Speaking of Dan Malloy, the new elected governor as well as a large amount of Republics will not hold position in government. Allowing the majority of democrats to republics to lean towards the republicans. This might prove to be trouble for Obama since he will have difficulty achieving some aspects of what he originally set out to do as president. All in all, these are historic times especially in this extraordinary presidency.

In the course of the election, there was a lot of mud slinging occurring. Each candidate was trying to bring the other down by saying all the bad things about what they have done, rather than what they themselves WOULD do for us.
During the midterm elects, the offices up for grabs was the Governor's office, senate seats, as well as others like seats in the house of representatives. The republican party currently has control of the house of representatives, while democrats keep control of the senate. Since Obama is a democrat, there will be a major halt in progress as the opinions will be drastically different.
