While the current conflict between Gaza and Israel is only seventeen days old, the struggle between Israelis and Palestinians can be traced back to the late 19th Century. The two groups have fought sporadically over the years. In simple terms, both sides want the same thing. They want to have their own country, and both claim that the land, which is now Israel, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Golan Heights, belongs to their people. Obviously, both sides cannot win, unless a compromise is made. The current conflict began with Israel’s invasion of Gaza. Due to this, many say that Israel is to blame for the conflict. However, Israel’s actions were not without motive. For the past few years, Palestinian groups in Gaza have been launching rockets into border cities. As stated by President George W. Bush, “Israel has a right to defend herself.”

In my honest opinion, the world should not be surprised regarding the current conflict. There is a bitter dispute between the two sides, one that has been going on for over a hundred years. This being said, the world should not tolerate these acts of violence. Many of the actions being taken blatantly ignore the international laws set by the Geneva Conventions. The random rocket attacks of the Palestinian forces put innocent civilians in danger. Israeli’s latest attack near a UN school which killed 43 Palestinians, despite reports of opposing forces shooting from the school, took the lives of many unarmed civilians and children. These crimes are not acceptable. In my opinion, a ceasefire would be the best possible solution for the time being.

Since January 17th of 2008, Israel has sealed off the Gaza Strip, Palestinians have breached the border and crossed into Egypt, and a cease-fire has been both agreed to and broken between Israel and Hamas. And now, as of January 3rd, Israel has launched a ground offensive into the Gaza Strip. From what I understand, and if I'm not mistaken, Palestine bombed Israel because they threatened to take over the Gaza Strip.

If two countries are going to fight over a strip of land, then they should go about it both maturely and safely. Palestine bombing Israel both unexpectedly and haphazardly doesn't solve any problems, it only creates more. They didn't have any evident motives for bombing Israel, other than that they felt threatened.

I feel like both countries are to blame, Israel for breaking off of Palestine and then thinking they can just regain the Gaza Strip like it is nothing, and Palestine for bombing Israel just because they felt threatened by the opposing forces.

I would imagine that the world is shocked at the current situation. All we can do is on look the situation from the outside and hope for the best, despite the fact that at the moment, there really isn't anything good coming out of this. It's unfair and it's inhumane beyond any belief, however, countries have been fighting over land for centuries on end and that's not about to change.

The Israel-Gaza conflict started in 2006, it was a battle between Palestinian gunmen and Israel Defense Force. Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip have fought against Israel since the country occupied the coastal region in 1967. In mid 2006 armed Palestinians crossed the border from the Gaza Strip into Israel through a makeshift tunnel and attacked an Israel Defense Forces post. This Israeli-Palestine conflict is basically a fight between two nations both claiming the same area of land. On December 24th 2008 the truce between the Israelis and the Hamas expired, and Hamas fired rockets into Israel. Israel warned Hamas but with no end to the attacks, Israel attacked in Gaza. That attack alone killed at least 165 and wounded around 350. As of January 11th 2009 the Israeli army attacked the suburbs of Gaza City.

My thought on the conflict between Gaza and Israel is that both countries need to come to a mutual compromise. Otherwise this conflict will never come to an end. In my opinion, the Hamas group was wrong to attack and they took it too far. Even though the Israelis were the first to cease fire the Hamas didn’t stop attacking and targeting civilians. The Israeli government is doing everything in its power to ease the shortages and stress faced by the population of the Gaza Strip. I think that the Hamas group is to blame for the conflict that is going on right now. Hamas made no move to make a new treaty after the first cease fire treaty expired. Israel responded like any other country would; with force to protect its people from further attacks.

I think that the world quiet doesn’t know how to react to this situation. This conflict has been going on for a long time and both of the sides are not going to back done anytime soon. I think that these two countries need to resolve this issue on their own. Getting help from other nations could only cause more conflicts, the best resolution is for these countries to come to an agreement. All the world can do right now is anticipate the end of this conflict.

The conflict currently going on in Gaza is being fought between Israelis and Palestinians, two groups who have always had problems with each other. In this case the two countries are fighting over one piece of land which is in Israel. With this being said it should technically belong to the Israelis. However, the government in Gaza, known as Hamas has been less than satisfactory to work with.

Hamas has even fired rockets into other parts of Israel killing more than 150 people and leaving over 300 wounded. This left Israel with no choice but to respond to these attacks for their own safety.
I think that these two nations will never come to a compromise unless they stop the fighting. An issue such as this should be solved in an office, not on a battle field. This way there is so much less bloodshed and there would barely even be a body count. But even before Israel and Palestine come to a solution Israel needs to come to terms with Hamas. If Israel cannot even control a government within its own country why should Palestine think that Israel has authority or power to rule Gaza.

Personally I believe that Hamas is to blame for all of this. They have made no effort in terms of ending this conflict. After the previous cease fire expired they made no other motion towards a treaty or any other type of document to halt the disagreement that is going on. I don’t think that any other countries should get involved as of now because it is already a big enough of a mess with two. Until this is settled all of the other countries of the world should wait it out to see what happens next. Other countries shouldn’t get involved unless the safety of their people is being threatened which is unlikely to happen.

The conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians has been raging ever since the Jews had the desire to create a zionistic state. One of the reasons that the conflict has been going on so long with little headway is because of the nature of the conflict. Both states desire the same piece of land, and both states believe that this land belongs to them.

In my opinion, Hamas is at fault for the current conflict. It was Hamas that broke the cease fire and initiated the fighting. While it does take two to tango, it is merely common sense to retaliate when rockets are soaring into your home.

The world should not be surprised at the new chapter of this ongoing novel. There is very little the world can do to achieve peace besides declaring a cease fire. They can't justify declaring one nation as the rightful owner of the land. Ultimately the best we can do is issue another cease fire and wait for fighting to break out again

I honestly believe the Palestinians (or more specifically, Hamas, PLO, and Hezbollah) are to blame.
This is the land that Jews have been calling "The Land of Milk and Honey" for millenniums, long before Islam was even a religion. Long before Israel was a country of the 20th century, the land was a home to thousands of Jews. The land most disputed has been the area around Jerusalem. It is the place Jews want mostly because of the Western Wall, and the one Muslims want mostly because of the Dome of the Rock. Both places are extremely sacred in each religion.

In 1948, Israel was declared to be the home for Jews. It is the only country that can be declared a Jewish nation. Although the land Israel covers is very important to various religions, it is part of the only country that all Jews can call their home. If Muslims want to live in an Islamic country, they can choose Iraq, Iran, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon or almost any other middle eastern country. Jews have only one Jewish country to go to.

On December 29th, 2008 President-Elect Obama said “If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that. I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.” This take on the matter by our soon-to-be president is what I believe most of the world leaders should believe as well. For years now, Palestinian terrorists have been blowing themselves up and sending rockets and other means of destruction into Israel, in the name of their ethnic group and religion. And for years, Israel has tried to be diplomatic and negotiate. Treaties and relationships are continuously being made and broken. Israel needed to put their foot down, so that's what Israel did.

I see the ongoing conflict between Palestinians and Israelis as a fight between two students in a school. The Palestinian groups are like a bully that keeps picking on Israel. Although Israel occasionally fights back, the UN has to be the guidance counselor and work out the problems between the two, and even though both sides agree to the terms, the Palestinian groups are never satisfied. Finally after Israel has been "picked on" for too long without any serious conflicts, they're now standing up for themselves, and are basically telling the bully (the Palestinian terrorist groups) to knock it off.

Did I mention all the war crimes involved in this war? Israel is being accused of killing many civilians as their warcrime, however the Palestinians are the ones using children's schools and large hospitals as their shield for their bases. Not to mention the countless rockets they've shot, and homicide bombers sent into Israeli cities not knowing who they're going to kill.

A few years ago, Israel surrendered the Gaza Strip to the Palestinians; however this did not stop them from fighting Israel. Instead they continued to fire unguided rockets into Israeli cities. Unless Israel reacted, which they finally did, the Palestinians were not going to stop, as their objective for decades has been to eliminate Israel all together. The Gaza Strip was just the beginning. Now there are talks about a new negotiation. With Egypt as their mediator, the UN hopes to create a ceasefire long enough for a negotiation to be reached, however it is unsure whether Israel will be willing to bring their forces to a halt. Either way, something needs to be done. This conflict needs to end.

As Golda Meir said when she was the Prime Minister of Israel, "We can forgive the arabs for killing our sons. we cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the arabs when they love thier children more then they hate us." It's nearly fifty years later since she said this, and they're still fighting the same battle.

Despite being only 17 days old, the present situation in Gaza with Israel has the potential to be an extremely long and deadly conflict. Both sides, the Israelis and Palestinians, desire the same piece of land while also truly believing that it belongs to them. Any time that two sides feel as strongly about something as these two do there is bound to be serious fighting and turmoil.

In the case of these two groups of people, I feel that both sides are to blame. This is because neither side is capable of compromise. It is quite understandable that compromise is difficult, but they should atleast try and make the effort to prevent further bloodshed, death, and catastrophe.

However, I feel that the Hamas group deserves most of the blame. This is because they broke the cease fire and have continued fighting. Although the Israelis are fighting as well it is only in retaliation to the rockets being repeatedly sent into their country. Also, the Israelis aren't harming as many non military citizens as the Hamas are.

I feel that the world should react by trying as hard as it can to help resolve the conflict. But, I do understand that it is hard to help two groups of people as stubborn as these two are. The one way to do this would be to sit down both sides and make an attempt at as fair a compromise as possible.

The enmity between Israel and Palestine has existed for generations; the recent conflict in Gaza is tragic, but not unexpected. The disputed region includes Israel, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Golan Heights. Palestine has attacked Israel ever since it was recognized by the UN in 1948.
People are blaming Israel for this conflict, but I believe that Israel has the right to defend itself. Responding to provocation is not the same as being the aggressor. Both sides have killed nonmilitants, innocent Palestinians and innocent Israelis,
The terrorist group Hamas is at the center of the conflict. They broke the ceasefire, already killing 150 people and wounding over 300. If Israel is able to eliminate Hamas, then future violent outbreaks may be avoidable.
I don’t have an optimistic outlook on the situation, because of the conflict’s long and violent history. The Israelis and the Palestinians hate each other and always will; a mutual compromise is unrealistic. Both believe the Gaza strip belongs to them and neither will be willing to relinquish the land.

While this conflict is old in development, I feel that is it somewhat ridiculous. Conflicts over land ownership seems to happen frequently and I just think it's kind of a lose-lose situation. Both sides essentially want the same thing, so no one can win in the end. They could come to a compromise but I think it may have gotten too out of hand to calmly agree. I do not think that the conflict will be solved anytime soon. Although I feel that the violent attacks may decrease, onn a whole, I don't feel very good about the conflict. I'm not surprised by the issue, especially with these two places.

I think there are two answers as to whom is to blame for the conflict. Technically, it is the Hamas to blame, since they fired/killed people and have made no peaceful attempt to restore peace. Yes, it is most definietly there responsbility to try and solve this more so. But I personally feel that both Gaza and Israel are to blame for the conflict. I feel that both countries need to make an effort to stop this. You can't point finger in an incident like this, it'll just keep going back and forth.I think that the ONLY way for this to be solved is to come to a neutral agreement.Although I do feel that of course retaliation is appropiate and understandable, so on a whole, the Hamas are to blame.

How the world should react and how they will are to complete different things. I feel like the world is not so surprised withthe siutation itself, but more so the violent attacks that have been occuring lately. Quite a few people have been killed and no one has a plan to stop it. But I also feel like the world isn't focusing in on whats really going on here. They're only looking at the people dying, not the reason and not whats right or wrong. No one should get involved in this conflict, that would be really awful to add other places in. Then it could so easily blow up bigger. The world should stay out of it, and not get themselves roped into anything. But, as seen from hsitory, I think that that might be hard to avoid. Some places just itch to get into siuatuons and it's going to cause problems. The best thing to do is look in from the outside, keep both sides in our prayers, and hope for the best.
