Life in the White House

Now that you have viewed Inside the Obama White House, what did you find surprising or interesting? Would you want to live there, or be interested in working there? Why/Why Not?

It was kind of interesting to view President Obama's daily life. I liked the fact that from 6:30- around 8 he said it was his family time, dinner and goofing off. I know out of a whole day that an hour and a half is nothing big, but being president you have a busy schedule so making time to just be with family is a good idea. I also thought his schedule was very boring. He has a meeting one right after another.
I think it would be cool to live in the White House, but not with all the security and publicity. I would like to live in the White House as a regular teenage girl, not as the president's daughter. I feel working there would be very long and tedious. It would be nice to work there to meet the president and be his right hand man but after a year, let alone four, I would be tired of working there and would want to move on.

After watching the Obama in the White house clips I felt that it was interesting how many meetings he attends a day. I thought originally that there would be just one big meeting instead of the many different meetings. Also I felt that it was interesting that he had so many people to help him like the advisors and the organizers.

I feel working in the White House would be too crazy and I feel that I would have too many hours to work during the week. Also I would feel that if I were to mess up something it would give me too much pressure. Lastly I would like to be in the White House for one night but I would want to leave because it would be too crazy. I think that it would be annoying having the body guards around me because I would feel to restricted.

It was interesting to see the White House during its daily routine as well as getting to see what the president does on a typical day. I didn't realize so much happened within the White House, which is why I don't think I would want to live there. I would much rather live in a quiet home and go to work some place else. That's because if I lived and worked in a place like the White House, i would never feel like i could stop working and go home.

Also, all the meetings that the president attends daily would definitely be a drag. And since there's a lot of ongoing issues presented to the White House, I would hate working on a bunch of things daily, but never actually solving or fixing any of them to the point where their no longer an issue. I don't think that I could ever work in a job that takes so many hours of dedication but never gives back any sense of accomplishment.

After watching Life in the White House, I was pretty surprised at how crazy it actually was. I pictured it to be hectic, but not constant meeting-after-meeting, briefings, etc., and all the work all the staff had to do on a daily basis. I also thought it was funny how one of the secretaries or something had to have 2 blackberrys to keep up with everything.

I don't think I'd want to live in the White House or work there though. Living there would just be a constant struggle day to day, and I wouldn't be able to play obscene amounts of Call of Duty. And working there, although you're very close to the President, would tire me out very quickly. I also think constant meetings and briefings and such would be very boring, and having to sit through that every day wouldn't be fun at all.

I found it very interesting when viewing President Obama’s daily life. I found it very interesting how much of a big to do it was when President Obama wanted to go to five guys. The secret service had to prepare the cars, by taking down the flags and the signs on the sides of the cars. I would hate it if when I wanted to go out some place all those things had to be done, and even then I wouldn’t be alone. I also found that he was very busy and it wasn’t even with anything enjoying, it was meeting after meeting, paper work after paper work, and phone call after phone call.
If I got the chance to live in the white house I would want to as long as it wasn’t as the president’s daughter and was just as a regular girl. I wouldn’t like being followed every where my secret service and I would definitely not enjoy all of the publicity and paparazzi. When watching the day in the life of the President the little bit I did got to see about the first lady, her life seemed a lot more interesting and a little more full of life. Unlike everyone else who worked there from like 7 in the morning until 11 or 11:30 at night

I think that watching the clips of Obama's day in the white house was interesting. I found it surprising that there were so many people in such a small area (in those small cubicles). I also found it interesting that he had so many briefings/meeting every day. I liked that he made it very clear that he always made time for his family every day too.
About living in the white house, I think that it would be cool for a few days but, I wouldn't want live there for a long time. Living in the white house would be very stressful because everyone around you is always working and also you would need to have secret service follow you around all the time. About working in the white house, I would definitely not want to do that because you have to work very long hours in a cramped environment and also you don't really get paid that much. So, those are my feeling on working and living at the white house.

What I found the most surprising was just how busy the White House actually is, and how many people work there. Like that one camera shot, where there were so many people in one room, it was hard to get in and out. I was also surprised by how long the typical work day at the White House is. From 7 a.m. till about 11 p.m.
I don’t think I’d ever want to live there; visiting would be enough for me. It would be interesting to work at the White House though, and be in the middle of all the action and help the president. I wouldn’t want to work for more than a year or two though because the schedule would get miserable and unbearable!

I thought it was very interesting to see what life is like in the White House, especially in the West Wing. I had never really thought about how many advisors, secretaries, etc. would be present in the White House on any given day. Even though there were so many people, everyone seemed extremely busy. This proves that every job held in the West Wing is vital to the success of the presidency. The lives of White House employees seem very chaotic; I would love an opportunity to work there. Not only would the White House be one of the best jobs to put on a resume, but the experience of working there would be one of a kind. To have that much responsibility would force a person to work to their full potential and prepare them for any job they could come across in the future. I would also find it very interesting to sit in on some of the president’s meetings and listen to discussions that involve important national issues. I would imagine that living in the White House would be fun at first; however it would quickly get very annoying. I’d get sick of having media around all the time and I imagine that they are very intrusive in the lives of people living there.

I found it interesting that it seems the entire white house runs on sugar and caffeine… I intellectually knew how much time, hard work, and stress a job in the white house entailed, but it isn’t something I think about on a regular basis. This program really brought home to me how much hard work running the country entails, and the number of people who sacrifice their time, energy and personal lives to make everything work. This program also made me think about public officials and their families in a way I haven’t really before. I usually only think of public officials like President Obama, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, or Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel in the context of politics and the news. I rarely consider their personality, disposition, or personal lives. The program forced me to consider how the constant work, stress, and public scrutiny must be affecting them and their families.

In light of this, I really would not like to work or live in the White House. I have always known that I’m not cut out for a field like politics – my shyness, stage fright, and general hesitancy to assert myself means that I would not succeed in any job that entails constantly talking to people, aggressively arguing my point, and coming under public scrutiny. The program just emphasized that fact for me. I am also not the kind of person who holds up very well under continuous stress. Given the hectic and stressful nature of the jobs the program portrayed, I believe I would very quickly burn out in that sort of environment. I would like to be able to have a somewhat private life, with some time to relax and enjoy the company of my friends and family. Neither living nor working in the White House would allow me to do that.

I thought it was very interesting seeing what Obama experiences day after day. I had no idea so many things happen at once in the White House. It was surprising how many meetings he needs to attend in one day. I think it would be very stressful having to stay professional for pretty much the entire time with only an hour or so to goof off.
Personally, I wouldn't like to live or work in the White House. This is because it's such a busy environment with practically no time to slack off. Everyone always had something to do or someone to see. It would also be hard not getting to spend time with my family as much. I'm the kind of person who wouldn't be able to handle the amount of pressure in the White House which is why I'd be fine with just visiting.

After watching Inside the Obama White House I was quite shocked by how the president lives on a day to day basis. I knew that he would be very busy interacting with people during meetings, interviews, and what not, but I never thought that he would actually go get a burger and fries for himself and his colleagues at Five Guys. This just shows that he too is a relatable person. Also I thought live was pretty hectic for the president and his advisors and other very close personnel working in the West Wing compared to the East Wing as it was described to be more calm and tranquil but not lacking in the same amount of workload the West Wing receives on a daily basis.
This video gave me ample insight at how the president lives and the situations surrounding him. Personally, I would not like to live in the White House. Just the thought of having no privacy what so ever and being in the press 24/7 doesn’t really appeal to me. However that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to visit the White House after all it is a public museum filled with many historical documents and other wonderful artifacts. Therefore, I don’t think the White House would be a well suited residence for me.

what i found surprising is how small it is. i thought the white house would be bigger and have more room for offices. everything is cramped together which makes it very stressful. i would never work in the white house. too much pressure. i like the whole apple idea. its a good idea, but in reality i would be hiding candy in my desk too.

I was somewhat surprised by the relatively relaxed atmosphere of the workplace in the White House. It was interesting to see the building’s mystique removed so as to expose the little, everyday details—the food, the hand-sanitizer, the behavior of those who work there, etc.
I would not be interested in living at the White House. With security so high, it is a cage. Yes, it is a cage designed to protect its occupants, but a cage nonetheless. As seen in the video, even such a simple and quick excursion as a burger run has to done with tight security and under the utmost secrecy. As for working at the White House, the answer is still no. None of the staff positions there appeal to me, and the tight security would make the job a hassle.

After watching the video, I don’t think I would want to actually live or work at the White House. Even though, for the most part, the workers get along with each other and keep the mood light and fun, I think having a job at the White House would be way too stressful for me. I would feel so much pressure, because just one mess-up on my part could result in me losing my job.
As far as living in the White House, I don’t think I would enjoy that too much either. It would seem like a museum to me and not an actual home, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable there. I would love to visit and see the great history that is there, but I wouldn’t want to have my home be the White House. If I worked or lived at the White House, my life wouldn’t be very private or relaxing, and this just isn’t the type of lifestyle I want to have.

I thought it was really fascinating to see what life was like inside the White House. I was shocked at how many things got accomplished in one day and how many people were needed to do it. I have a lot of respect for all the people working in the White House because as shown in the clips, people could work from 7 in the morning to 11 at night! To me that is crazy and I don't think I'd be able to do it. I respected the fact that Obama has family time from 6:30-8 because you can see that the president can easily work 24 hours a day if he really wanted, but cares for his family as well as the nation. I find this important, especially for his daughters so they can maintain a healthy father-daughter relationship with their father.

I think it would be pretty cool to live in the White House, yet i don't think i could handle all the responsibilities that come with it. It's a lot of pressure to be on your best behavior 24/7 with publicity watching you every second. All the security would get annoying at points also. Overall, it was really interesting to see a day in the White House.

To get a glimpse into the life at the White House was a really interesting experience, especially to see what goes on in the West Wing. The West Wing seems like such a high-energy place to work and to be apart of something so big is a huge honor for everyone in that office. Not only had I not realized the amount of secretaries, advisors, assistants, etc there are but the amount of hours these people work to keep the White House running every day is astonishing. It’s apparent that the president would not be successful or proficient with any task if he didn’t have the staff that he does working side by side with him day in and day out. I would definitely be more than willing to work at the White House, the life experiences and events that I would fall witness to would be irreplaceable and would not compare to any other job opportunity to cross my path. Working at the White House, especially in the West Wings, being in such close proximity with the president would be a very rewarding experience. I feel that working there would be such a chaotic career, that one wouldn’t be able to keep their position for more than a few years, due to the massive amounts of stress they would accumulate over the years.
It is more than obvious that the potency of working at the White House would push a person to perform at the best of their ability, inevitably allowing them to achieve bigger accomplishments in the future. I definitely feel that it would be an amazing experience to either live or work in the White House. Yes, there would be sufficient amounts of pressure both working and living there but if you think about the responsibilities resting on your shoulders, there should be. Anyone who thinks that having a part in the running of our country, even if your only assisting the president by carrying his blackberry, mints, and daily planner should be a low stress job; isn’t seeing the whole picture. I think that having pressure and large amounts of responsibility on ones hands is something necessary to be a successful person, if you’re scared of a little stress then maybe you need it, to realize the good that comes from it. I definitely have a lot of respect for the people who work and live at the White House; it takes a strong person to proficiently carry out a job of this caliber.

After Watching the Inside Of the Obama White House, I was surprised on how much work and all of the hours in a day to get their work done. I thought it was interesting how the president’s day actually was. I found that he still managed time to meet with his family and how he was talking about making basketball lines with removable hoops to get in a couple of basketball games in a week with his jam-packed schedule. It seemed like the president was just running around from six to about 10 o’clock everyday doing work which would be a reason why I wouldn’t want to work in the white house. I feel if I had to work there I wouldn’t get the work done because of the pressure you have for working for the president of the United States. If I had the choice I would probably want to live their for about a week to get the feel of living and doing work in the white house for experience on how they do what they do, but I don’t think I could handle working their full time.

Watching the video about the white house was entertaining and enlightening. Inever really had expectations for what the inner workings of the white house would be like, so this was helpful. It seems so stressful though, and i couldnt imagine working 100 hr weeks.

As for living in the white house, i simply wouldnt want to. There is simply no privacy, and to much work being done in your own residence. Most people would find it odd to never leave their house, and find other presidents coming over their house. I personally would also hate to have a security detail constantly on me. I would be overwhelmed, quit my job, and give Joe Biden the nod.

I found the program Inside Obama’s White House to be very interesting. I learned a lot from it, I had no idea so much actually took place inside the White House. I knew the president had people and co-workers in the white house but I never knew how many worked and actually lived there. Living there would be extremely interesting. Living in the White House would be like living in a museum. The life style and pace of the white house is extremely fast, thus making it so I would not want to work there. With out a doubt it would be interesting, but I would prefer to live and work somewhere much more peaceful.

In the place where our king sleeps
In every room a Blackberry beeps
So many people
Acting like sheeple
With mountains of work piles in heaps

A place that is always alive
Bustling like a bee hive
With no time to rest
Trying their best
Your energy will take a big dive

So much shiny gold bling
Glistening like a diamond ring
The fear of being lost
And the taxation cost
This is only fit for a king

I do not want to work in that place
Or be part of that rat race
The office is cramped
The decorations are ramped
To make me a basket case

Although I was still surprised
By the stress level that is arised
The only relief
Although that its brief
Is a quick trip to a Five Guys

I thought it was interesting to see what actually goes on in the Whitehouse. Some people view the president and his staff as almost being superhuman at times. It was interesting to see that President Obama and his staff are actually pretty normal people, who enjoy things like burgers at five guys. I think it takes a special kind of person to work at the Whitehouse. They all are working under extreme pressure; after all they’re running a nation. There are two major qualifications: they must be able to handle the work and they have to actually want to work there. I personally wouldn’t meet either qualification. Life is unbelievably hectic with long hours, some people work there for over 15 hours a day! And with the media scrutinizing every action taken, there is a huge amount of pressure. If somebody says something wrong to the media it will be all over the national news by the next day. The Whitehouse is also like a museum, and trying to run the nation as well as some of the great people who were in office before the Obama administration adds even more pressure.

The most surprising thing I found out about the Obama white house was the fact that President Obama is essentially “The Boss”. This may seem obvious to everyone else when he was elected but I have always thought the executive branch was just the president and a large amount of small scale beaurocracies. But seeing President Obama making final decisions and interviewing and deciding on his policy through his very hectic day truly made me realize how real the presidency is. It also showed me the often said quote that success is not a destination, but rather a journey. President Obama won a landslide election over McCain and Palin and most likely had the greatest night of his life at that moment, thinking along with the rest of his voters that we have achieved success. Seeing this president in action now made me realize how that night was just one step of a very long process to help the American people and the white house may not be what its thought to be.

Another very interesting part about seeing the executive branch was seeing the higher cabinet positions working their butts off for the president’s agenda. For every person that has spoken about Washington’s wasteful spending and ridiculous usage of money, I am very confident that our tax dollars are being used well in this president’s office. The people are working day and night to help Americans while trying to remain in touch with the people. To be honest, I really want to have the role of the economic advisor to the president. This seems like one of the best jobs anyone like me can have. I love money, math, and for some odd reason, financial policy. Learning about this while dealing with politics and helping Americans seems almost like a dream job, even though Tim Geithner goes through hell at times, it seems like such a true service to our beloved country

The video about life in the White House for people in the Obama Administration was very interesting. I was shocked at how fast life was inside the White House. I felt sorry for Obama, because of the number of meetings and conferences he has to attend daily. Given the number of hours he works, he is definitely underpaid. I was also happy to see that the current administration is a very hardworking, dedicated, and loyal group of people, because those are the type of people I would want in the White House.
After having seen the video, however, I have made up my mind that I would certainly not like to live there. It is not because of the residence itself, as it surpasses many in the world in terms of beauty and elegance, but I would not be happy with putting in that many hours for that little pay. It is also too fast paced for me. I would enjoy a more slow paced work environment, where things move at a snail's pace, such as the Senate.
I am, however, proud of the Obama administration, and hope that no matter who leaves or comes into the White House, they are just as dedicated and loyal as the group shown in the video.

After watching the clip of what life in the White House is like, I was really astonished. So much effort is put it by so many hard working people every hour of the day. Members inside the White House are constantly working, every hour of the day. It surprised me that president Obama even has set time for being with his family, although I'm glad he does in order to have healthy relationships. I knew that working in the White House entails endless tasks that need to be done by specific deadlines, but seeing in upfront really blows your mind. Everyone works like clockwork in order to maintain organization.

Working in the White House is something I would never be able to picture myself doing. I wouldn't be able to keep up with such a hectic schedule. Nor would I be able to see myself as one of the president's daughter. So large amounts publicity and security has to be draining even after a short period of time.

PaigeP said...

I found it interesting just how busy and crowded everything was. I thought that every position would be given a larger amount of space, but from seeing the video it's the opposite. I also didn't realize just how busy everything was inside of the workplace. I knew there would be constant phone calls, but I wasn't expecting to see crowded halls and people constantly moving from room to room.

I would have to pass up working in the white house. I would not be able to deal with that stress. I could deal with helping people as a psychologist, but not worrying about the whole country. I feel Obama has to constantly deal with a huge amount of criticism with the stress of trying to help the whole country. I'm not sure if I would even want to be a secretary. I hate talking on the phone, and I would be too worried about making a mistake while working for someone as high as the president.

I would not like to live in the white house either. Sure it was beautiful, but it's a little too big for me. Also, I think I would get very annoyed if I had secret service following me everywhere. I like keeping a low profile, but living in the white house would include having to deal with press. At least with facebook I can delete bad pictures of myself, but with the press the whole country would be updated on my "bad hair days". I also would not be able to deal with so much attention from crowds or the hassle in leaving to go somewhere public. I make plans very last minute, and if I lived at the white house it would make everything very difficult. Plus, it'd be awkward having a guard follow you around while with friends.

So no, I would not like to live or work in the White House.

Jason Bailin: I would want to work in the white house only for a year or so. Like you said in class, it would be tiring and working the amount of hours that they do for an extended amount of years is too exhausting. Some stuff I found interesting was that Obama has a bowl of apples in every room of the white house for healthy eating, he also likes Five Guys, that's the best burger joint ever. His day seems planned out every day and that would be good to be around because there wouldn't be too many things you wouldn't be aware of. Either way, I would work there but not for a long career... I'd just want the M & M's..

it was nice to have a view of the president's day in the white house.one thing that surprised me the most was how loose everybody was, I expected people to be uptight and strict. Another was how small and ungrand parts of the white house was! like the offices, on TV you always see the big grand offices that are organized and everyone is calm and perfectional, but it wasn't all like that. there ere tiny offices and papers were all over that place, and at times people were all over the place! I also didn't know that many people worked to keep things under control.

I wouldn't want to work nor wold I want to live in the white house. To live there, it would probably feel like I'm being watched 24/7 and whatever I do wrong would be exposed.I wouldn't want to work there because it seems that whenever it is calm, something might come up and cause chaos and I wouldn't be able to handel it. working there would probably stress me out too much. the only good that can come out of working there is being able to say; "I worked in the white house".

After having viewed Inside the Obama White House I walked away intrigued by several things. First of all, I was quite amazed by the age of much of Obama’s staff. Many of his aides and secretaries are in there twenties and most are just out of college. Secondly, although I knew the president would be very busy, I was surprised at how quickly President Obama and his staff moved from room to room and from topic to topic throughout the day. It seemed as though they did not stop working all day. The coolest part by far was when Obama took some of the members of his staff out to lunch at a Five Guys and brought some more back for other staff members.
Living in the White House would be fun for a little while because I would be able to walk around and look at all the historical items it holds and spend time in each of the many rooms. However, to have my father (or mother) be the president would not be my first choice because even though I would be very proud of them, it would suck to not be able to spend a lot of time with them. I would also not want to work there as it seems as though it would be very easy to get burned out from the long days and strenuous work.

The things that I found most surprising about the white house is how long the work days are and how much work is actually done. Everyone in the office’s were constantly running around, having meetings, and taking calls. They got there early in the morning, and typically didn’t leave until late at night, after a full work day. It also surprised me how many people actually work in the white house, and play roles in helping it run smoothly. I originally thought only a select few got to work with the president, so I found it surprising how many actually know and work with him.
I don’t think that I would like to live in the white house. I like to have my privacy, and I also like to have the people I love close around me, not in a huge expansive house. I would also like to have my own style, and you can’t necessarily change what’s already in it. I would also feel a little unsafe knowing that I was living in a large target if we were to be attacked.

After watching life in the white house and about what obama really does each and everyday. The one thing that stuck out to me was that he can have time for doing fun things like basketball. I never really thought about what would happen when the president would want to go out for lunch, and the process that he has to go through just to even get a burger.
I would not want to live in the white house because even as great as it seems, it would be too public. In a sense i don't think that i could ever feel like home. I would not like to work in the white house because its the kind of job that requires with too many hours. It might not be the best place to work even though it would be the most interesting place. The white house comes with its ups and downs as expressed in the videos, it is a very stressful environment and workplace. Making sure that everything goes smoothly with the president is a big job, you have to be very dedicated to your job. It is a very tedious job.

When i watch all of those clips of the White House it seems intriguing to me. I think that it would be an extremely interesting thing to be caught up in the beehive that is the White House. I would be constantly awed at the fact that I was in the very center of it all. The people walking those halls make the decisions that effect not dozens, hundreds, thousands of people, but their decisions instead can have worldwide ramifications. So for at least a few days the novelty of working at the very center would not wear off.
That said though, I do not believe that the fast rushed life is the one for me. So I would probably take an exit before the term was through.
As far as living there goes, I feel like it would be way to stressful of an environment for me to survive on my own, let alone raise a family. There seems to never be enough time to do anything for the president and without any space to let loose i feel I would suffocate.
Watching this video gave me vast amounts of respect for the whole White House working family.

After watching inside the Obama white House, I have realized just how busy it always is. I guess I always viewed the white house as just where the president and his family live, but there is so much more than that. All of the staff that work from early in the morning to late at night each day inside the white house surprised me. I found it very interesting how big of a project it is just for Obama to go out and grab a burger and how much goes into such a little event. I guess any event is a big event when it’s the president.

Personally I would not want to work in the white house. The days are way too long for my liking and I wouldn’t enjoy working in such hectic conditions day after day. It would be cool to live in the white house, but I really don’t think working there is for me.

After watching Obama in his daily routine in the white house, made me doubt his leadership even more. It was very insightful and interesting to see how each role in the white house is played. The job I enjoyed the most was the secretary of the press. He handles all the media aspects, and states true from false in the media. Mostly everyone in the white house expressed in their own way they do not like having the press around because it distracts, and affects their work.
To me Obama did not show a significant amount of work being done by him. It seems that all the people working for him are showing more effort in their work than he is. All he seemed to express was his issue with one of his picks for the supreme court. In all honesty, thats the least of everyone's worry in the world right now. We want to hear answers to our important questions. I find it also kind of strange when he explains how he has such a heavy work load, and finds now time for himself. Yet he went out during the day to buy lunch for the people in his office. Can't you order cheeseburgers in the kitchen?
Over all I did enjoy the video, and I do believe that I would enjoy interning for the white house to get the full effect of what they do all day, and get a great experience.

After watching Inside The Obama White House, I was surprised how the President went about his day. I enjoyed the fact that President Obama found a way to spend 630 until 8 with his family and made time to play basketball once a week. It was interesting to see how he didn't use the Oval Office but preferred a more personal private office.

I would want to spend a day at the White House, but definitely not live there. There would be too many other people living there and working there. The constant security and press would become uncomfortable. I would not want to work there either. The stress and responsibility would be too much to handle. Having to be in charge of the President's important projects and meetings after a long period of time would become too stressful.

The White House was different from anything I ever imagined it to be. I don’t remember what I had imagined but I knew it was nothing like anything I saw during the film. I was glad for the insight, though. It was interesting to watch.
I expected a lot from working in the White House but I didn’t expect so many people moving so fast. I was surprised that no sercret serviecmen were captured in any of the camera shots. Obviously they must have been there at all times but they were never shown. I assume it must be a security issue then. I’m glad that in all the hustle and bustle that the president has some time to spend with his family.
I would never want to work there. The amount of hours the employees have to put in are enormous and they mentioned they pay is not as good as you think. And even Mr. Emmanuel said that he regretted the time spent away from his family. The employees seem to be under the same amount of stress that the president is under. I would rather go through all the strain and stress doing something I love instead of working like a secretary or dealig with press. I recognize the amount of work that they do and its importance but know I could never do it myself.

The portion of the documentary that was particularly surprising was the average age of Obama’s staff. It seemed as though the majority of his aides and secretaries were fresh out of college, many in their twenties. I was also taken aback by how fast paced a typical day in the White House is.

Though living in the White House may seem ideal, I would not want to live in such an environment. The lack of privacy and lack of personal time would not suit my personality.

After seeing what life is like for the Obama family inside the White House, I do not wish to work at or ever live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. With the lack of privacy and presence of extremely protective secret service agents, I doubt the Obama's every get to have alone time. I understand that there are parts of the white House that one could go to for privacy, but living in a national museum means thousands of people will be in and out of your house on a daily basis. In addition to all those who work for the president, there would be tours taking place and meetings to attend and so on.

One aspect of this video that surprised me was the First Lady's priorities. I have heard so much about her that I thought she would definitely attend more meetings and public appearances than she actually does. I admire her for putting her kids first and being able to juggle all of her duties while properly raising her two daughters.

As for working in the White House, I'm not sure I'd be able to handle the long hours and stress. It would be interesting to know top secret information about our country, but I do not think I would be able to be under such great amounts of pressure for such long hours. It doesn't surprise me that most of the people who work in the White House resign after only a few years.

I found several things surprising after viewing "Inside the Obama White House". The first was how jam packed the offices were. There was a lot of paper and people all busy at work. I also found it surprising how important blackberry's are to the staff members. I was also intrigued to learn that many of the workers in the white house are young. Some come right from college and are like 22-27. Something I found ironic was that there were bowls of apples every where, but also there was an equal amount of bowls filled with m and m's too! It was also interesting to see how much a hassle Obama has when he wants to go out in public. When he went to five guys it was this crazy ordeal and he couldn't just simply enjoy his burger.
I feel like living there would be cool for about the first month. Then I'd would become boring and annoying. Family's in the white house are never alone. Even if you don't see the other people, like the workers and tourist, you still know they are their in your house. Also being a teenager, i would not want to live their because the security is top of the line and it would be impossible to get away with anything. Every where i went and everything i did would be under watch.
I would however want to work their because the fast pace and the worker atmosphere is something i like and enjoy working in. I like to be put to work and kept busy. It would also be cool working for an extremely important cause.

After watching the clips of the White House what I saw actually surprised me. I found that I was surprised at how small the West Wing is. It seemed that everyone was so crowded together and constantly moving around. It definitely seems like a busy place that is always on the go. It gave me a new perspective of a place that usually is shut out to the public. I was impressed by the grandeur of the architecture and decorations of the White House itself. While I was definitely interested by everything going on in the White House, it is not some place where I would want to live. I would find it difficult to work and live in the same place and be so close to the people I would have to work with everyday. I give a lot of credit to everyone who works in the White House on a daily basis.

After watching Inside the Obama White House, I was surprised that Michelle does a lot in one day just like Obama. I thought that she had it easy and relaxed. It was very interesting to see what our President does each day. I was also surprised on how many meetings Obama attends each day. I was expecting to see him attend one big meeting that covered the topics that needed to be talked about.

I would not want to work or live in the White House. It would just be too hectic for me to handle. I would also not want to have body guards following me 24/7. I would feel too restricted. I like to have my freedom and I know that i would not get that there.Another thing that would bother me is the publicity.I feel that just because your the President of the U.S., doesnt mean that you are really any different than anyone else. However, I would consider staying there for one night just to see what it is like to have such a big home where everything is done for you. Obama has a very crazy lifestyle, along with his family, and I admire him for all that he does.

Considering we were watching the famous West Wing I was actually unimpressed. As expected it operates like any large corporation. The hours are longer and the job is more stressful but otherwise it doesn't seem very interesting to see a day in the life of President Obama. It was amusing to see the segment where he visits Five Guys Burgers but otherwise he acts like any corporate CEO. His day is mostly meetings and he has an army of staff to help him. It's nice to know the President is just like any of us but a lot of the video was filler.

I would never consider a job in The White House because I wouldn't be able to deal with the 70+ hour works weeks and overall difficulty of the job.

after viewing the life of the president obama i realized how crazy it was and i thought to myself how could i ever live there. there's always hundreds of people running around doing jobs. I also feel like there would be no privacy and that's important to a teenager like myself. It wouldn't be great having secret services and publicity ever day following you and never leaving you alone they would follow you everywhere. that is something i would hate. the white house is like a museum and a beautiful building but i could not see myself living there. it all depends on who you are and i wouldn't be comfortable living there.

I thought it was cool to actually see what a typical day for our president is like. I can imagine it would be a stressful job, but at the same time, I'm sure it has its rewards. I can't see myself working in the White House at all. The hours those guys put in is crazy. I think after a while, I'd just lose it. It was cool to see all the history in there as well. I could tell a lot of the staff was honored to be in the presence of a lot of great presidents in our past.

I enjoyed when they showed the M&M's and how many people snack on them on a daily basis. I thought that was pretty cool. I also liked when Obama went to McDonald's, it showed how he is just like a normal American. Then he asked for tickets to the Lakers game. I found that pretty funny. I saw that as a way for him to get away a little, and have some time to himself to relax.

It's safe to say Obama has almost no privacy. I think I would hate that. No matter what he does, or where he goes, he always has secret service all over him. I think after a while that would just get really frustrating.
I think it is cool how he has his own facilities to play sports. I mean how cool is that? Almost anytime he wants, he can go play basketball or tennis, or any other sports he has there.

Obama seems like a great guy at heart, but at the same time, I still have some doubts as to how successful he's going to be as our president.I know this may sound crazy, but I've heard he may be, by the end of his presidency, even worse than Bush. He just keeps spending a ton of money, and I'm not sure if it's on the right things we need. Our economy has gotten so bad, it just makes me wonder what he's actually doing in the house to help us. You can tell there's a lot going on over there, but how do we know if it's for the good of the country. He says he's going to accomplish all of these things, but how do you know if he's going to actually get any of them done? He said he was going to get our troops out of Iraq. In my mind that's never going to happen. It just makes me wonder if the decisions he's making are good ones. I know the workers in he white house are working there tails off, but if there not making good decisions, how does that help the country?

But overall, I thought it was a great experience to see how things actually work in the House. Without these videos, the public would have no idea what's going on in there and I think it makes for a good experience, especially for us as students to see the people inside and what their lives are like on a daily basis. I myself would never want to work there. Personally I think it would be way to stressful. There's just so many issues going on at once, but I guess that's part of the job. I would like to see a more updated video, to see if the workers in the house have changed there moods in any way, or reacted differently to certain topics. I may not agree with all of the decisions he's made as president, but I got to give him credit for taking the job. I know I could never do it, not in a million years.

When I saw "Inside the Obama White House" some things I thought were interesting was the fact that Obama is trying to make some sort of normal life style even with being the President of the United States. He makes time for his kids and wife, goes to five guys and picks up lunch, and jokes around with his staff which I thought was a very good thing to do when working in a potential high stress situation.
I would not like to work at the white house for a couple reasons. Working and or living in the white house puts you at the center of everyone's attention and I would not want to be in the spotlight. I like living a secluded lifestyle without everyone knowing my business. Also, working 10-14 hour work days is not worth any amount of money I could be paid working there. I'd want to spend time with the people I love.

I found it very surprising to view President Obama's daily life. What I found most interesting about the White House was how many people work in there. In the offices, kitchens, camera people, and body guards. I never realized how crazy it was in the White House. But what I liked most was how President Obama always made time for his family.

A personally would not want to live in the White House. It would feel as though you can never get away from your job. I also wouldn’t enjoy being followed every where by secret service and I would definitely not like all of the publicity. But I think it would be interesting to work at the White House and be in the middle of everything and help the president. I would only want to work at the White House a year or two because the hours would be to much for me.

After watching the clips of Obama's daily life, I was surprised at how crazy the White House actually was. I thought he would have only one meeting a day and I never really thought about the extra staff. i was surprised to see that he would having meeting-after-meeting, and all the work the staff had to do on a daily basis was a lot. It was funny to see one of the secretaries needed two blackberrys to keep up with her schedule and everything else going on.
I wouldn't want to live in the White House or work there because it seemed so busy and serious there. If i lived there, I feel the people coming and leaving would judge you if you were fooling around with your friends or watching TV and eating on the couch, being a bum. As for working there, it would be cool to be close with the President, and tell everyone how you work for him, but it wold tire me out very quickly. Also, I'm not one to sit in meetings and listen for long, I find them very boring, so it would not be a fun job at all.

The video Life in the White House was really interesting. It was like a behind the scenes to a movie. I thought that Brian Williams and the NBC staff did everything that they could do to get us the most information, although not all the members in the White House liked it.
I thought that there was more room to move around, not those tiny cramped spaces that are there. It was different than the show "The West Wing". the M&M's were a funny thing to see and something wouldn’t expect to see in the White house.
I think I would maybe like to work a year in the White House but anymore than that and i would get burnt out. with the crazy times that they have to work it would be exhausting. i hope that the President has a little more room to move around in or there is no way i would want to live there.

Seeing what goes on in the White House was very interesting. I was really surprised on how relaxed it was in the offices. I was expecting people to be spending the whole day just working. Instead there was a fair amount of fooling around ans jokes which kept the atmosphere light. I also thought it was funny that President Obama went to five guys for lunch.
Although working in the White House seems entertaining in its own way I don't think I could put up with it. There was so much security everywhere in the facility that I would go crazy if I had to deal with it. There is just so much privacy that you would have to give up as well as the inconvenience. All in all, I have a great deal of respect for the President and his staff for being able to put up with it all.

After watching "Life in the White House" I immediately thought "wow, I would love to work and live there." However, after thinking about it, I don't think I would be able to survive a full term of four years in the White House.
I really liked the atmosphere of the work environment of the West Wing. The organized chaos and fast pace is something I feel I could handle and enjoy, but I could also see there would be little to no room for mistakes. Not only are you running a country, but it is so fast paced, if you fall a little behind one day you could end up being a week behind before you know it if you don't catch up.
I also enjoyed the luxury and historical feel to living in the White House. Walking around and discovering new things about our history and the house would keep me occupied for hours. As someone who comes from a family that values family time and privacy, the White House would definitely get tiresome. There is also a responsibility to being a president's daughter; in other words you can't misbehave or do anything that the media could get hold of and embarass the president. There's no room to grow up and be a kid. A young child has to be well behaved, they can't be running around wreaking havoc in the White House, and teens can't go to parties or go out on dates without being trialed by seceret service or the media.
Initially the White House seems like a great place to work or live, but in the end, I don't think I'd want to live there, but to work there would be interesting.

The fact that the White House staff mostly eat candy and apples was very interesting to me because you'd expect those guys to be eating normal foods like the rest of us. It was also interesting to see what the president does on a regular basis because it really puts things into perspective for people who don't like him. People are always asking why he can't do certain things, and through this video we see that he has tons of problems not only here to deal with but also over seas. I wouldn't want to live at the White House because there's always people going through it, cameras evrywhere, and people are always watching you. There is just no privacy anywhere on that property.

Watching a really live interview on the white house was very interesting. I would have never know how everything was set up in the white house. I knew that there wore alot of people working for the white house but i never knew how much space they had. I found out that everyone has a blueberry some even have 2 because the white house has so maybe things going on the works all need to keep track of it. What I found interesting was that the workers get to listen to music and relax. Not every work place is appeal to do that I thought that was very calmin for them. I would love to live in the white house I would think it will get crazy and I would hate it at times but Its what its all about it. Livivng in a historial place would be so amazing. But it would be nice having my on space but its also good to have someone neear by to protect me.

After watching the interesting things that go on in the white house. I found out that that staff doesnt have as much space in the white house they get relax with their own choice of music. I found out that the president is able to spend time with his family and has time to play basketball and go to five guys. I also thought the president was so busy that he wouldnt have time for anything or anyone but I was wrong. The white house is a very nice historial house that has alot of memorize and for them to do an interview of the white house and to show us is amazing. I would like to live in thw white house. It's alot of work to be president but to live in a nice house with a great staff will be nice.

Watching the video that showed life in the White House was very interesting and it really showed how things went on there. I don't think i would like to live there or work there because you do not have very much space of your own nor time to spend on yourself. You are basically working all day and all night long. Also, when you live in the White House, or work there you have to go through a bunch of security and that would probably be a pain to go through each and every day.
I thought it was very interesting to see Obama's life and how little time he was to spend with his family and how just to go to Five Guys, it is a big deal. I appreciated that he set a certain time to spend with his family, just to make sure they weren't lost during all of this. As busy as he is as the President, it's good to see that he still makes time for his family each and everyday.
I would probably want to live at the White House, but not as someone related to Obama but just to live there because every little thing you do is criticized if you are part of the President's family. But i do think it would be awesome to have chefs all the time and maids to clean up everything.

After watching the film "life in the white house" I had found out that yes it is a quite a cool place to live because of how big it is and all but not for ever. Maybe for a week or two but i think that after some time i feel i would loose interest in having hundreds of people visiting my home as if it were a museum. You defiantly couldn't ask for anything more, for it has anything you need but sometimes a little bit of privacy is better than all that. Also having a job in the white house would defiantly be a great accomplishment to have but not for me. Obama has to make sure he doesn't do anything wrong for he has the risk of being caught on camera. to me in this case it would be to hard to be your self, always trying to find ways to please everyone.
some things that i found interesting was that even with all the hard and stressful work that they have they still find time to lighten the mood.

I enjoyed watching the video about president Obama. I had no idea what a day in the life of a president would be. I would not be interested in working in the white house as a employee or the president. First off it looked like all of the people that worked there had a very stressful job and they had to work long hours. I dont like sitting in a office for hours doing more busy work I am more of a hands on person. I liked seeing that Obama was a everyday person just like vou and me. He enjoys activities that everyone likes to do including basketball and five guys burgers. It was comforting to see that they had everything in the white house in control and you can tell they are working their hardest to get the country back on its feet working extremely long hours. I obviously wouldnt mind living in the White House it is huge, I wish they showed the living courters and the spots you cant see. In the end I did enjoy the movie.

After watching the Life in the White House I was surprised to see how much Obama tries to put enjoyment into the West Wing. The West Wing was a busy place and all the people working there seemed to be working hard at their jobs for long periods of time. Obama tries to put some fun in the job by taking trips to five guys or trying to get basketball games in when he gets a chance. They also play music in the office to relax everyone during the day. The office seemed very stressful with many people running in and out of the rooms. If I had the chance to live or work there I don’t think I would enjoy it. The office seems very stressful and I would not like to be put in that atmosphere. I wouldn’t want to live there either because living there means that you are constantly being watched. There is secret service always around so you never get the chance to be alone. Also, the White House is one big museum and there are many people coming to tour it. I wouldn’t want to live in a house that would never feel like home because so many people are walking around. Life in the White House was very interesting and showed me how much work the president has to do while still trying to live a normal life.

Prior to watching this film, I was completely oblivious to the day-to-day life in and out of the White House. I hadn’t the slightest idea as to how the entire “business” worked. This film not only informed me of the time constraints, but also shared some of the relaxed moments as well. For instance, the documentary focused mainly on the close quarters of the offices and the numerous meetings that had to be attended. However, they managed to film the lighter side of the business day which included the candy-fix as well as the numerous styles of music found throughout the building. But the segment that truly caught my attention was President Obama’s statement where he mentioned the amount of conflicts he has surrounded himself in is necessary. In order to follow through with his views and publicly announced statements, he has no choice but to attend meetings, make phone calls, and consult with his co-workers non-stop through out the day. In my opinion, this amount work and tightly scheduled day is too hectic. I have no problem if I need to complete a number of tasks each day, but having to do so with people rushing around me and reminding me of the next topic would make it impossible to succeed.

After watching "Life in the White House," I was able to gain a broader scope of what takes place at the white house on a daily basis. Although I knew working in the white house is very busy and a lot of work, it still surprised me to see just how chaotic each day was. I had no idea how many meeting each member had to attend on a daily basis and was also surprised by just how long each work day was. It was also interesting to see what the people of the white house do to alleviate some of the stress whether it be listening to U2 or eating some of their endless supply of candy.

Although living in the White House might seem like a cool idea with its bowling alley, movie theater, basketball court, and a world class chef that can work anything you would like, I also believe that after a month or so of living there, the stressfulness of the environment will set in. First of all, i would not like myself nor my parents to work until around 11pm everyday. Second of all, the pressure to always do what is right and the constant violation of privacy by the media would also seem like a problem. All in all, I would not want to live at the White House, although a field trip there does seem like a good idea.

I found many things very interesting after watching the video “Life in the White House”. The first thing that surprised me the most was how many secretaries, advisors, etc. that were in the White House. I knew many people worked inside of the White House but I did not suspect it to be so hectic and chaotic through much of the day. Everyone has a task to do, and they are the best at doing it and often stay extremely busy. They work hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., which I would not be capable of doing nearly everyday of the week. What I also think is very interesting is how nearly the entire White House runs on sugar (M&Ms made specifically for the White House) and caffeine. I also found it interesting how apples are in nearly every room. I was surprised to see though how much stress people in the White House were under with their jobs and found it interesting how many people leave their families behind in order to help serve our country and the video gave you a better perspective on the personalities and characteristics of someone working there. Characteristics of people that would not fit me and situations that I would be too stressed out to perform and deal with over long periods of time.
I would not be able to live in the White House either because I could not deal with the constant attention and feeling as though I am always being watched. While it would be cool to have tennis courts and a basketball court I would not want to be around people almost constantly and I feel as though your home should be somewhere where you can find privacy.

It was interesting to see how regulated and structured the President's schedule was. I enjoyed the fact that everyday, he begins his day with letters written to him by the people of America. It's great to know that the President takes precious time out of his day to learn about the people on a personal level and recognize their opinions. His normal schedule also reminds America how busy his schedule is. With the constant stabs any president often receives from governement representatives and the public about the work he hasn't done, I often forget that the President, on a day-to-day schedule.

When it comes to doing political work in the White House, I'm not sure I'd be up for it. For Model UN, I had participated in a group that simulated a political campaign for a presidential candidate. I have to admit creating policies and backing them up for press releases was intense and not easy. It seemed like an ever-changing labyrinth because anything could happen and we always had to be on top of our toes to defend our candidate. And I wasn't even working for a simulated President, much less a real one. However, I surely wouldn't mind helping the President out by being a chef or an in-house doctor.

There were a lot of things I found surprising and interesting after viewing Inside the Obama White House. One of the first things that comes to mind is when President Obama went to Five Guys to get food for himself and his staff. It was interesting to see how much preparation and planning goes into every trip outside of the whitehouse the president makes. There is so many security and other people involved in the process. I would not want to live in the white house. Based on the video it seemed too busy and crowded for me to want to live there. I would not want to work at the white house either. The staff there put in 12 hour days seven days a week. I would not want to be putting in over 84 hours a week working. I enjoyed watching the video and learning about what life in the white house is like.

Watching the "Life in the White House" video, gave me a true insight of the day to day activities that take place there. I found it very interesing to see where President Obama works and how every aspect of daily life requires such an attention to detail. Working in the White House would definitely not be an ideal job for me. I was surprised to find that Obama's staff in the West Wing works in such a cramped and confined area. I had imagined that because of the sheer size of the White House, the employees would have had larger offices. Having a job at the White House also comes with a great ammount of responsibility and stress. Throughout the course of his day, Obama attended countless meetings which can be very tiring.
I also do not think I would enjoy living in the White House. Though it is a very beautiful and historical building, I would not like to live in the public eye and be constantly followed and scrutinized by the media. Though President Obama does make time for his family, I would not like to live that kind of lifestyle.

The president's life seems very interesting and different then normal lives. The president has to attend several meetings per day, has to work many hours. I wouldn't like to work in the white house because, it seems to be to stressful of a job, and there are to many hours. Although the working at the white house seems like a very challenging job, it has some interesting rewards. People who work at the white house receive complimentary apples, M&Ms, and free starbucks. All the sweets you can eat, and all the coffee you can drink. The white house seems like an interesting job to work but I could never do it, due to the stress and the hours you have to put in.

I've already checked. If it is not in, it's too late.

what did you find surprising or interesting? Would you want to live there, or be interested in working there? Why/Why Not?

What I found surprising is how many hours everyone works in the White House. Most people are working close to 60 or more hours a week. I was also surprised at how often the president is running around. I thought the president sat at his desk in the Oval Office and did paper work or answered phone calls or something, but President Obama is always on the move.

I would not want to live there at this age, because once you president, or the presidents son/daughter, you lose some privacy. You would have secret service agents following you everywhere, so you wouldn't be able to sneak away and have fun with your friends.

Working there at first looked appealing, but once I found out the amount of hours you have to work, and probably at not much more pay than any other job, I didn't want to working alongside someone like the President of the United States would be cool, but I just don't think it would be worth it.

It was extremely intriguing looking at President Obama's daily routine and how is general life is on a daily basis. Knowing the presidential status that he carries with him, it is to be expected that a man of his stature is very busy and occupied. However, HOW busy he actually is begins to become absolutely mind blowing. His staff members attempt to juggle all of his meetings, appearances, conferences, etc. on TWO blackberry's! Secondly, I learned in depth about how little privacy The President and The First Family actually possess. Between secret service, press, and just the general mass of people that are always around The White House, the four of them have little to no privacy.

That therefore leads to my reasoning as to why I would like to work and live at The White House for a period of time. I would not want to do it for four or more potential years of a presidency. It would certainly be nice to be comforted by the amenities and staff for a short period of time before all of the other downsides begin to hit. With barely any privacy, a constant schedule, extreme hours, and just the whole big "to do" with everything that goes on, I feel that I would want to live or work in The White House for a short time before everything hit me, and I would most certainly regret my decision.

After watching "Life in the White House", I was surprised by many things. Even though the White House seems so big and roomy from the outside, the offices are very small and cramped. Also, all of the workers (and president) are extremely busy. They must take on long hours and make hard decisions daily.
If I had the choice, I would not want to live in the White House. With so many bodyguards and other people following you around all day, there is little time to relax. Also, I would feel too restricted. Even going out to 5 Guys was a huge event. The White House is extremely crowded and hectic, and I would not want to live there.

I found that inside the white house, it seemed that no one really ever got a break from work. Even when the president left, he still had to fight off hordes of fans just to get some Five Guy's. This I find a little boring, and very stressful.
I don't think it would be cool to live in the white house, unless that was just my house and I was not the president. Otherwise, I would get fed up very quickly with everyone looking over my shoulder all the time.

It was really interesting to get an inside view into the daily life at the White House. We got to see how all of the business is taken care of on a day-to-day basis. It was also interesting to see that even the President goes out for fast food now and then. It was also interesting that they have packs of M&Ms and bowls of apples everywhere in the White House.
I personally would not want to work in the White House just because it seems to be a very hectic and long work schedule, and I am not really what one would call a multi-tasker. I would be unable to really keep track of everything, especially the part where everyone has two different phones for business. Eventually, I would get tired of working so long and hard, and would want to leave and find a different job.

Personally I would want no part of the busy, frantic life style that comes from being apart of the White House. Your over worked under paid and there are a million critics complaining that you are not solving anything as well as having to deal with compromising between two parties who often share little to no common ground on issues. But hey I’m a pretty chill guy who likes rational long debated solutions with no compromises. I also would not ever want to be the president because it is willing setting yourself for a four-year prison term, I mean you lose a lot of freedom. I just could not handle that. I am very happy with the first ladies focus on children and surprised to see the love for gardening that she has. I feel that her approach will have a number of benefits on kids including keeping them academically focused as well as encouraging a healthy life style. Which is very important because we are tipping the scales as one of the fattest countries. I am also pro health care so I liked the focus on that and I was happy to Rob Emmanuel storming through taking charge. I feel that kind of leadership and lack of toleration for the press is the exact attitude the white house needs. Over all I found the video to be interesting and insightful.
