Obama and the republicans, Working families wont suffer from tax cuts, work on creating a high job creation and will not worsen the medium- and long-term deficit. By makeing these deals, maybe obama will get something done / move the economic deal along in washington.
The democrats in the House responded in a different way they want things to go there way in government. And since Obama is making deals with the republicans. they are threatening to block president, the republicans arec changing Obabma's original deal.

Some provisions that were made were that the tax rates that are used now are going to be extended througt 2012. Another would be that the social security payments will be lower from now on. Also unemployment benefits will be extended. The democrats arent really happy with this because they feel that Obama didnt include them in the decisions, and they dont think there should be tax cuts to the rich.

It's tough to decide whether or not to support Obama's deal because as he put it, this is a hostage scenario. At stake is the well-being of the average of American. But the question is how do we best protect the well-being of the average American? Under Obama's deal, the average family is saved $3,000 in taxes that they would have had to pay if this deal did not exist. Also, if this compromise didn't exist 2 million people would lose their unemployment benefits. This compromise also decreases the payroll tax so each family can take home about $1,000 more this year. But on the other hand, Democrats think that they should redo Obama's plan for two reasons: they believe they can get the votes and because the American people are against tax cuts for the wealthy by a margin of 2 to 1. It's a tough decision.

Because this tax deal is only temporary and not permanent, I would support this proposal because in two years the tax on the wealthy may be re instituted. Like 2/3 of Americans, I believe that the tax cuts should mainly be given to those who are directly impacted by this recession, the average American. Profits on Wall Street are sky rocketing while Main Street still continues to suffer. While our nation may appear to be economically healthy, it is only the very top of society that are feeling better.

Unemployment benefits are a temporary remedy for the economic woes of those who have suffered the most from this recession. If we seek to move forward as a nation, then we must strive to have all Americans move forward. For those in need of unemployment benefits those benefits are like a life preserver that enable them to move forward instead of sinking even further.

Finally comes the payroll tax deduction which is controversial because payroll taxes fund social security. With a decrease in payroll taxes, the government will have to borrow the money from another source which will add to the deficit. The fact that tax cuts for the rich will take $700 billion we could put towards the deficit and payroll taxes will increase the deficit has caused much controversy. Despite those minor pitfalls, I still believe Obama's compromise is the best solution taking into account the factors in play.

The economic deal reached between the White House and congressional Republicans isn’t so much a deal as it is the White House deciding that allowing tax cuts to be extended is worth passing other legislation. But we all know that nothing is really going to happen, and at this rate no tax cuts will be extended. The largest issue would be extending Bush-era tax cuts for the top two percent income level Americans which Obama has conceded. Congressional Democrats, however, were in no mood to stop acting like congressmen and chose to be stubborn. So it goes. Anyways, unemployment benefits, inheritance tax, and payroll tax are also main points of economic discussion in congress.

Democrats in Congress have responded by (wait for it…) not cooperating! Well, fight political partisanship with political partisanship, they always say. Democrats oppose the idea of extending Bush-era tax cuts to all Americans and would rather allow the cuts to expire for Americans making two hundred and fifty thousand dollars or more annually. Some Democrats may also be opposed to the proposed decrease in Social Security taxes. Said one anonymous Senator “I just really hate compromising. Also, I thought that when I signed on I had to agree to never be on the same side as the opposing party or they would ‘make me go hunting with Dick Cheney.’ I’m hopeful for next year though, as it’s already clear that even less will get done. Did you know I get over 170K for this job? I know, right?”

I agree with President Obama's stance on the tax cuts. I believe that the Bush tax cuts should be allowed to expire. Instead of providing tax cuts for the wealthy the tax breaks should be concentrated on helping the struggling middle class. Recent polls do suggest that even the wealthy themselves don't support a tax cut. Although the plan was aimed at helping small businesses so they could create jobs, now days the small businesses are pocketing their profits and staying away from hiring until they are sure the economy is continuing to get better. The wealthy don't need the tax cuts as much as the struggling middle class does who are living paycheck to paycheck.
The unemployment benefits should expire however I think the government should adopt a new policy. To receive unemployment benefits I think it would be fair for the worker to: 1) show evidence of either trying to find a job or training for one. 2) in the mean time help with community service. Many of the unemployed are taking advantage of the governments help and aren't looking for a job.
The payroll tax cut is most likely controversial because the government doesn't want to increase the deficit by giving families more money per paycheck.
Overall I agree with Obama's plan rather than the Republican's because extending the Bush tax cuts will increase our national debt even further.

Jessica Poling said...

The three main provisions of the economic deal between the White House and Republicans are tax breaks for parents raising children or paying for college tuition, tax breaks for small businesses looking to grow, and a cut in payroll taxes.
The Democrats, however, have no responded well to this. They're enraged that these tax cuts made it to the floor and that Obama did not stop this from happening. The Democrats would have much rathered to continue blocking the Republicans instead of working around their stubborn views. This way they could have improved the bill instead of settling like Obama eventually did.
In my opinion, tax cuts should not include everyone. We are in tough financial times and although many people's wallets are shrinking, the upper and most of the middle class are able to bear the burden of taxes. Although a lack of tax cuts would be inconvenient, I believe that those who can help alleviate our financial burdens should do so.
I also believe that unemployment should be extended until more job opportunities are available. Without unemployment benefits many people who would happily start working again would be left with no income to support them and their family.
However, I have no clear cut opinion on payroll tax cuts. On one hand, tax cuts would mean more income for families struggling financially. On the other, it would also mean less money towards our government's own financial problems.

I do understand why Obama needs to compromise in order to get something done but tax cuts for the wealthy are definitely not good for our country. Our economy is so hurt right now and so many people are struggling that the wealthy should not be given a tax break. I do not feel that their taxes should be raised either because that would also be unfair in my eyes so their taxes should simply be left alone. On the other hand the middle and especially lower classes are struggling to support their families due to unemployment and high costs. These are the people that should be getting a small break until our economy can recover.
This goes along with unemployment. I know first hand how hard it is when a parent becomes unemployed because my dad was unemployed for almost a year. The extension of his unemployment checks really helped our family get through that time. It was not my dad’s fault that he could not find a job and therefore he deserved the extension. For hardworking Americans that can not help themselves extensions would give them a boost and in turn they may have enough money to contribute to the economy.
The payroll tax cut is controversial for many reasons. The first is that any cuts for the wealthy are unfair to other classes who are struggling. On the other hand, giving the middle and lower classes tax breaks will only increase our deficit. Also Obama promised to help the middle class when the new proposal goes against his beliefs and gives the wealthy tax cuts.

I do not believe that the tax cuts should include everybody. I feel that the upper 5% of the wealth and the lower 15% of the wealth should not be included in these tax cuts. First off the bottom 15% pays so little in taxes anyways that to cut them anymore would lead to a freeloading by 45 million americans off the backs of the rest of the population. Second the top 5% of americans do not contribute enough to the economy in order to justify cutting their taxes. Not extending the taxes is not going to lead to a mass exodus of the wealth because they are not going to find any cheaper taxes in countries as industrialized as the United States. Unemployment should be extended only for those people who show that they are actively seeking a job and not just sitting around feeling sorry for themselves. The cut is controversial because the democrats dont want any breaks for the wealthy americans, they want to punish them for their wealth, and the republicans want to protect them.

Valentino said...

The republicans have given ground but only to a point. Republicans first Decided with Obama that working class families will not lose tax cuts. Working families will not lose their tax cuts next year because they need these cuts to continue financing the economy as the main part off circulation. Furthermore the republicans agreed to jump start job creation and fund development to create jobs. This funding is needed because of the terrible deficits and loss of jobs that plague the country. This both parties agree will help boost the number of available jobs. Finally they agreed that tax cuts will not be permanent. This is due to the deficit which will continue to grow as long as the tax cuts are in place. Democrats now want to block the bill in part because of the estate tax. This tax will raise taxes on estate 35%. This effectively distributes tax that was before nominal compared to what it is now. Furthermore Obama wants to rev up the tax code in order to streamline debt but this in turn is completely contradictory to Obama’s previous goals. Due to these and other changes democrats have come together to stop the new finances.

To answer the question of whether the tax cuts should include everyone I would have to say no. The only reason i say this is because we are in an economic depression at the moment but if we weren't i would have the tax cuts be for everyone. To support this i think that the wealthy and upper middle class are providing a lot of money to the government and they can still survive and probably live fairly well if taxes stayed the same or increased. As for the lower middle class and the lower class they can barely afford to live now and if some taxes are cut it would greatly benefit them to pay for basic necessities. To conclude i believe that taxes cuts should not apply to everyone because of our current economic dilemma and for the lower class to survive and excel.

Kristen Kimiecik said...

I believe that taxes should be at a level base for all everyone. Just because you are being paid more doesn't mean you should get punished for it. I do believe the middle class needs these tax cuts and they should not go higher, while the richer should be equal, they do however have the money to pay for taxes while many are unemployed or have week jobs.
On the topic of jobs, until the economy can get back upright, unemployment money for the unemployed should be extended.

Kayla Silverman said...

I believe that tax cuts SHOULD include everyone, regardless of their income or status. At some point in people's lives, they may not have been at the status they are now (if they are wealthier) and know that tax cuts can be extremely beneficiary. I feel that unemployment should be extended, but with it's limits. If taxes are being cut, it will be harder to get the funds needed so the government can pay unemployment, so one or the other must be chosen.
The payroll tax cut is so controversial because it'll give workers and people struggling to make ends meet a break, but will cut the tax revenues significantly

Labi Obama v. Congressional arguements in my opnion i think that tax cuts should only be for low class people. People that dont make alot of money because its not fair if everyone gets it like rich people they have enough money they can supported themselve but lower class people are struggling for money and they need tax cuts. Also teenagers should deffaninltly get tax cuts because they work alittle because of school and they work adn most of the money get taken as taxes and its not fair. because people that were layed off when unemployment rates increased need income because the job market is still suffering yes because because people that were layed off when unemployment rates increased need income because the job market is still suffering.

I don’t know if this is due but…
I think that the tax cuts should include everyone but not limitlessly. In my opinion, those people included in the tax cut bill such as families with children in school or small businesses who are struggling or just getting started should definitely get the most access to the tax cuts. In general, taxes are too high for everyone, so overall, they should be lowered for everyone but the most for the people mentioned above. I think unemployment is unfortunate and a problem and hopefully these tax cuts can ease the lives of some of those misfortunated people. These tax cuts are very controversial and hard to gain complete acceptance since it favors some groups of people over others but it is also important for the goodwill of the American people. The government will suffer though, because less money will be coming in for the budget and this will only make the federal debt worse.

Unknown said...

I think the tax cuts should include everyone just to make it fair. If some people don't like it, too bad for them. The whole country would have to deal with it rather than jst a few families here and there. I feel that unemployment benefits should be extended. If a person is out of a job, they would need money to stay in a stable ocndition until they find a new job. There is a lot of controversy for the payroll tax cuts because people are debating if it is right or not. Democrats compare this to Bush's tax rebates and point out how they failed because they came in one large check. To change this, Democrats would want to send the new ones out little by little to stimulate the economy.

Riley Hasson said...

-Should the tax cuts include everyone?
Yes, its only fair, we are in America and it should be across the board. There is no intrinsic reason to single out one group to pay for everyone else. Everyone should be paying the same taxes. Like the speaker of the House said, we don’t have a revenue problem we have a spending problem. Its not a question of how much money is brought in its how fast the government is spending it.
-Should unemployment be extended?
Yes, because there is obviously a major job issue in the US. This is economic stimulus because it gives the unemployed money to spend and put back into the system. Its little steps like these that will prevent the US from diving into an even deeper recession. Taking away unemployment will mean many people have nothing to spend… what good does that do?
-Why is the payroll tax cut controversial?
Obviously because any tax cut is controversial. People think that it is a way for wealthier people to have to pay more. They think it is somehow wrong for people to get a tax break wealthy or not.

In response to the question as to whether tax cuts should include everyone; I think the tax cuts should include everyone because the only other option for tax cuts is to make them only allowed for the middle and lower classes. This is unfair because from my right end point of view, the rich earned the money they have and if they didn't they already pay inheritance tax and it isn't right for them to be excluded from tax cuts especially when the American Dream prevails that those who work for it rise to the top, why should we tax those people who are at the top for any other reason than they have the money? Another issue with tax cuts being denied the rich is that no one works for a poor person and because that rich person might be taxed more they may have to downsize which means laying off workers or shrinking business which ultimately harms the economy and its healing mechanism, available jobs.
In response to the question as to if unemployment should be extended; I think that it should not because although it is helpful, even an essential safety net for someone who has been laid off, if it were extended I feel like and have heard people say that there would be no incentive to go back to work or get that job that isn't ideal for you because they're being supported by unemployment. It already lasts for 26 weeks or 6.5 months and can be further extended if the person is looking for a job, if unemployment runs out, the person will have an incentive to go and get a job they may not like, and stimulate the economy, which will help turn this country around.
In response to the question as to the controversy of payroll tax cuts; the controversial issue starts with the essential question: Is the money more likely to stimulate the economy in the hands of the consumer or the government? If payroll tax cuts are allowed this will lessen the money flow that supports government programs and potentially deepen our debt; however if the payroll tax cuts are not allowed American families might deepen their debt, downsize, and further shrink the economy while increasing deficit. There are essentially two sides here guessing as to which is the lesser evil leaving it to the American people to naturally fix the economy (republican) and allowing the government to use tax payer money to attempt to lessen deficit (democrat).

Meghan Shanahan said...

I think the tax cuts should only include the upper class. The upper class should be identified as people who make more than $250,000 a year. The people who make more money have more money to spare, and should help out others and their country during hard economic times. Unemployment should not be extended at this point. The government has been spending way too much money, and is not going to solve anything be simply spending more money. By extending unemployment, they would be spending more money than they already have. The government should be focusing on getting out of debt, not getting themselves further into into it. The payroll tax cut is controversial because republicans wanted tax cuts for everyone and democrats wanted upper class families to have tax increases. The middle class families received tax cuts, though.

Gil said...

-Tax cuts should involve everybody because it is only fair to give them to everybody. You cant just give a tax cut for one group of people.
-No it shouldn't be expanded because people that lost there jobs should be looking for a new one right away and I believe that it isn't hard at all to find a job. So unemployment is great right now and if we expand it people will take advantage of it.
-Payroll tax cuts are such a problem because people with a higher wage worked hard for that wage increase and if the smaller paying job doesn't get cut its not fair for the higher wage to get cut. Every wage should be treated the same way for payroll tax cuts.

Chris Beedle said...

I believe that the tax cuts should apply to all citizens except to those who are considered rich and wealthy. My reasoning for this is because trickle down economics has been an absolute failure for the past decade, despite what the wealthy want us to believe. If the Bush tax cuts that applied to the wealthy only drove the country further into the recession, there's no reason to believe it would be any different under Obama or any other future presidents. These taxcuts are controversial for the following reasons that were mentioned before. Not only that but when our country has a massive deficient, it shouldn't be easing the lives of the wealthy who have the potential to pay it off, and invest money into the market. Otherwise, there is nothing from stopping the wealthy from privately hoarding their money to themselves. It is because that our country is in a deep recession that unemployment benefits should be discarded. There is no reason for unemployed people should be allowed to leech off of their country and working kinsmen, who are tackling the burdens of the unemployment benefits. The unemployment benefits are only discouraging the unemployed from seeking a job, as they are already being paid for doing nothing.

I think that tax cuts should include everyone. Everyone in the United States has to pay taxes, so why doesn't get tax cuts. I think it isn't that fair how only the middle class get the tax cuts, when a lot of people have a hard time paying for them. I also think unemployment should be extended. Due to the United States not having a good economy, people are losing their jobs. I also think that everyone should get extended pay because people need money to pay things. The payroll tax cut is controversial because they don't know if they are gonna pass a law that is gonna do with tax cuts

the three main provisions to the economic deal are that there are tax cuts for families who have to pay for college tuition, tax rates or cuts for businisses that plan to extend, and to end tax cuts on payroll.

The democrats are not agreeing with this bill, because they do not want the Bush tax cuts to be extended, and they would rather have households making 250,00 or more anually have their taxes expire. Some democrats also do not agree with the Social Security taxes.

Personally, I agree that Obama had to reach a compromise in order to progress. I do not think that only the wealthy should be taxed, because thats not equally right. I also believe that unemployment benefits should continue, especially with our economy suffering the way it is. Many families depend on their unemployment benefits to support their families. I agree with certain aspects of Obama's bill, but I still think he needs to make some modifications.

Yes the tax cuts should include everyone beacusse it should not be just one class paying for taxes cause its not right, it should be fair. The unemployment should be extended cause if you don't work then how are you supposed to pay for taxes, so it should be extended to the unemployment since they don't have money to afford anything. The payroll tax cut is controversial because they would not be making any money if they had tax cuts, and they would not make any money off of the products, and then they will start getting mad. But the other side if they don't do tax cuts then we the people are going to keep complaining till its done. So this topic wont come to an conclusion.

President Obama claims he will extend the tax cuts made by President Bush that are supposed to expire soon. Parents who are trying to send their kids to college, businesses, and people who receive a pay roll are all included in the tax cut extension. Yet Obama’s party disagrees with his move to agree with the Republicans on the tax cut extension. A member of Obama’s party claims that the American people agree with the democrats, that the tax cut should come out of the middle class, and not out of the rich. He also says that the president has the ability to veto the act.

I do think that the tax cuts should include everyone. I do not think it would be fair for the wealthier families of this country to have to pay for part of the taxes of the families that do not make as much money. Even though these families are making more money, I do not believe that it is their responsibility to have to carry the families that are not as wealthy through.

Unemployment should be extended becuse it is hard to judge whether those who are unemployed are attempting and not succeeding at trying to get a job or not and many families depend on the unemployment funding they recieve.

This payroll tax cut in controversial because the money from the tax cut are funded by social security. If this money is taken out of a social security fund, then the youth of today will have to work longer to pay off for this tax cut.

Unknown said...

I agree with Obama because the tax cuts should be focused on the middle class. The middle class is struggling while the upper class is prospering. Even though for the most part the upper class deserve the money they've earned, but why tax cut them. The struggling middle class for the most part are living with their familys just by paycheck to paycheck. Its unfair only because the upper class aren't struggling, and the middle class are.
In the end I completely agree with Obama because by extending the Bush tax cuts will increase our national debt.

Unknown said...

Tax cuts should include everyone because it wouldn't be fair if one class of people are being taxed then another group. Also the unemployment should be extend but only for the people that are actually looking for a new job not that the people that are just sitting home all day doing nothing. The payroll tax cut is so controversial because people would get mad if they start losing more money each paycheck and having less money to buy things for their family rather than having more money from their pay check so they could have money to buy goods and other products.

Unknown said...

The deal set forth by President Obama, like most if not all bills brought to Congress, is controversial in the sense that no matter which resolution is reached, the American people are losing something. In my opinion, the tax cuts should not include people who make over $250,000 a year simply because they have enough money to support themselves in a struggling economy as is. By continuing the tax cuts for all classes, the federal deficit is increasing tremendously. Therefore, the economy is getting worse rather than improving, prolonging the current recession.
Unemployment benefits should be extended after seeing what a horrid economic state the American people are experiencing, and decent-paying jobs ( or any jobs at all) are scarce. We need to lend a helping hand to those who have been unfortunate enough to be laid off from their positions, at least until the job market expands to a satisfactory margin. Just because some people may be sitting at home feeling sorry for themselves or failing to search for new career opportunities, doesn't mean we should ignore the growing percentage of the population who is struggling to keep afloat.
The payroll cut is controversial because the deficit will only further increase, seeing how the baby-boomer generation is nearing retirement and we have fewer working class individuals to sustain their social security funding while simultaneously reviving our economy.

Sharon Turret said...

This current tax bill, though flawed, should be passed for the sake of the American people. I disagree with the fact that tax cuts should include everyone; people with incomes over a certain amount should not have the same tax cuts as middle class Americans who are undoubtedly facing greater economic difficulties. However, if this bill is not passed, then the middle class will suffer. In this situation, a compromise between the Democrats and Republicans is of the utmost importance.
It is essential that we continue to provide unemployment. We’d be dealing with a far higher rate of poverty and economic problems if it were discontinued. There are many who within the past few years that have been laid off for no fault of their own. They are struggling to get back on their feet and support their families, and it would be detrimental if they had no aid.
The payroll tax is controversial because of some key issues with social security. Of these, is the fact that social security funds may run out. However, if we were to stop funding it through payroll tax, then the government would only increase its deficit to cover these costs.

The Democrats think it's a tax cut for the wealthy and middle class tax cuts. Obama things this is the best deal. Taxes will not go up, 2 million will have unemployment benefits will continue, temperature extension of no of taxes notes for wealthiest. Collage tax breaks summon bus tax with payroll tax cut. The wealthy will not have tax. The democrats aree not happy. They want to block it because they want the wealthy to pay more. They new this as a tax cut for the wealthy. They claim the 2:1 ratio in polls it is not what the people want. I believe that tax cuts should include everyone to some extent. I believe that wealthy people now are helping stimulating the economy. They are buying a lot of things because they have a lot of money whereas the middle class and poor won't spend this money because they don't have the money to spend. They should change the higher taxes to people who make over 4 million. Unemployment shouldn't be extended because then the economy would get worst and the people wouldn't have the best interest. Families need to pay for their kids colleges and that is a very expensive thing to pay for.

The tax cuts should be equal for everyone. Just because you worked hard through high school, and then college, and then climbed the ranks to became successful doesn't mean that then you get to be taxed more then the average American.
Unemployment should also not be extended. Although your bleeding heart liberals would have you believe every person on unemployment benefits is a poor soul that got laid off, that is only partially true. Many people take advantage and use it to be fat and lazy.
I unfortunately do not really know what the payroll tax is exactly and therefore don't have a direct opinion.

President Obama’s Tax cut plan has compromised on the ideals of the Democrat Party in order to appease the Republican House members. His plan calls to continue unemployment insurance for 13 more months and more importantly to extend all of the Bush tax cuts. This last part of the deal is what ticks off most of the house democrats. Many of them are holding out on their vote in order to vy for tax relief for the middle class. They want to tax the people who earn more than 250,000 a year in order to give the middle class a break. They feel as if they’ve been cheated out of what they want from this proposal and that Obama had made decisions without them. A few of them are also ticked off by the tax exemptions for large estates. They feel as if this once again gives benefits to the wealthiest people of the nation.
I think that yes, the tax cuts should include everyone. Why should the most wealthiest people be exempt from more taxes than the average citizens? And unemployment insurance is necessary right now since the economy is still struggling and many citizens still struggle to find jobs. Unemployment insurance may not be necessary in a future time after the economy of the U.S. and the world rights itself once more but for the time being, it would be a bad move to remove it. The democrats and the republicans disagree over where the payroll tax cuts should apply. The house Dems want to tax people who earn over 250000 a year while the GOP think that it should be uniform no matter how much one earns. The Dems want to give the middle class American a break and dislike the tax cuts given to people owning large estates. Obama cannot appease everyone so he has had to pick and choose the decisions he will go through with that would make the bill favorable to everyone.

The economic deal between The White House and Congressional Republicans is a big issue. I believe that tax cuts should be provided to all classes of our economic systems and not just the upper class. This will help create a more even distibution of taxes and benefit everyone in the long run. I do not think that the wealthy should be taxed more because that would be too unfair. Also unemplyment checks should be extended due to the fact that it is very hard to find jobs. Without these extensions there is a far less chance that a person will be able to find a job in that certain amount of time. In our bad economy we can't afford more unemployment. The Democrates respond differntly because they are looking at the bigger picuture and care more about the future and the long run rather then a few people without jobs for the time being. They threaten to block his deal because it can cause more problems down the road and can cost America a lot of money at the cost of a few people rather then America as a whole.

In my opinion, tax cuts should be applied to all people. We are in America and it is only fair to have everyone paying the same amount of taxes. The rich and wealthy people all had to to work hard in order to get to where they are today and therefore do not deserve to be taxed more than the middle and lower classes. I also think that unemployment should be extended. It is important that unemployment is extended because their are many people out their who are actively looking for a job and it is not their fault that they can't find one. Unemployment really helps families who can not find jobs and could save them from losing everything. Finally, the tax cuts are controversial because although it will be helping Americans, it will also cause the deficit to increase because the government will have to borrow more money from other places since it will not be getting as much from taxpayers anymore.

Three of the main provisions of the economic deal reached between the White House and the Republicans are that the Bush tax cuts will be extended after the new year, families with children enrolled in college will receive a tax break as well as small businesses, there will not be a tax break for the middleclass, unemployment tax breaks will be extended as well as cutting of payroll taxes. The Democrats are very unhappy that Obama made a deal with the republicans and are angry that Obama is choosing to extend the Bush era economy tax cuts rather than Clinton’s tax cuts. I think the tax cuts should include everyone, rich and poor. The wealthy should not have to get taxed higher to save the middleclass money. I think unemployment tax cuts should be continued for now. The payroll tax cut it extremely controversial because many worry that the tax breaks will weaken the social security program. According to Obama the payroll tax cut in 2011 will save the average American family $1,000 dollars in take home pay, but some people worry that the money being given back to Americans as a boost in pay for the year will cause harm to the Social Security program.

I think that tax cuts should be for everyone. If one class has to spend money and the other doesn't, then class with the taxes will get to decide what to do with the money which will lead to many arguments and many people will be angry with the choices made. The payroll tax cut is very conversational.I dont think anyone should get a payroll cut weather your rich or not.

Just because you are of a certain rank according to wealth doesn’t mean you should be exempt from paying as much in taxes. This goes the other way. For the same reason, status shouldn’t cause you to pay no taxes at all. Taxes are for the benefit of the nation. They are what pay for our roads, construction, public schooling, and defense force. Unemployment benefits should definitely be extended. Right now would be a terrible time to get rid of it. So many people need these benefits to stay grounded because of the bad economy. So many have lost jobs and it wouldn’t be right to just leave them hanging. The payroll tax cut is controversial because it of its use in funding social security. Without these payroll taxes, the government will have to find somewhere else to keep it going. This will just add to the deficit which makes matters even worse.

I believe the current system should remain intact. If the time period of unemployment eligibility is extended, then there is less of an incentive for unemployed citizens to look for a job. In a way this is actually hurting our economy, not making it better. Also, the fixed percentage of tax money, that comes out of everyones pay checks, should remain the same in order to be fair to everyone. If the wealthy are being targeted as opportunity to make money for the government, then the government is being unfair to the people who worked hard to earn their money.

In response to weather the tax cuts should include everyone, I think that tax cuts should include everyone. It is only fair to every class if all of them get tax cuts. I believe that The upper class has to work just as hard for their money as the lower class and it wouldn't be fair to only take from the wealthier if the lower class isn't doing anything to help themselves. Even though are economic times are tuff right now I don't think we should cut it easy for some people and not others.

I think that the tax cuts should be equal for everyone. Many argue that the weathly shouldnt but in reality they pay for just as much as an average person. They have larger houses or more "things" in which they also pay for. So not only having the money to buy it but also to maintain it. We need everyone to pay taxes and not just exempt social status's from that. By giving more or less to one class will bring down our wealth as a nation not only money wise but those taxes pay for many things. Many also argue that the middle class should get the bigest tax cut due to unemployment. In reality, even though it is not the ideal time to find a job, it could be done really easily. Alot give up once they lose a job and use the economy as an excuse for staying unemployed. But truthfully it all depends on how determined you are. If you cut middle class taxs because of unemployment rate you truely dont know who is really trying to find a job or just isnt. People who are unemployed are that way most likely because they arnt willing to do certain jobs. Nowadays teens get many jobs easily. Parents are willing to go work at a store or resturant after getting fired because they are used to their carrer and i believe that is there own fault. So overall i think that everyone should have equal tax cuts

In Obama's recent speech he announced a few controversial statements to the public that not all agreed on.
Obama said that only certain families will be getting tax cuts based on how wealthy they were. If they made over 250,000 annually then they would be taxed. I don't agree that only the wealthy should have taxes, equality is important in the US and taxing only a certain group of families would redefine the difference between upper and lower class.
Unemployment I do however this should be extended. This allows for families to have more time to look for jobs while the economy is still down. Although they constantly say its getting better people will believe extended unemployment is necessary until that happens.
Payroll tax is such an issue because while it sounds good to the families who don't make 250,000 annually for those who do it seems unfair. Nobody wants to be taxed but in order for the government to thrive it must be done. As I said though, not just one group should be taxed, everyone should be or everyone should not be.
