Blog response (due Wednesday 4/11)
You must advise President Obama or a current Republican candidate on a policy for immigration reform.  How should he/she address both the numbers entering and the legal status of those currently in the US?  How do we secure our borders?  Make sure you support your proposals with evidence from the video clips and news stories linked to this site.

Future President of the United States,
It is very clear that immigration is a huge problem in the united states, especially illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are taking jobs and dropping wages, adding to overpopulation, and creating a greater need for more schools and hospitals. Something needs to be done. With about 12 million illegal immigrants in the states, it's fair to say that approximately 4% of people in the United States do not belong there. In some cases they are needed, such as in agriculture, but we have a guest worker program for that.
In all, to change this, we need to invest in stricter border control, and put restrictions upon hiring illegal workers. Fining illegal workers will generate revenue that can be used to fund stricter border control. As far as workers in the united states, once they have no jobs to fill, they will leave. People won't come for nothing.
In all, this problem has to be killed at the root: the border.

Dear future president, it is clear that there is a huge problem with immigration in the united states especially in Mexico. we have an over growing population already, adding to it with illegal immigrants is not a good situation to have. There are about 12 million illegal immigrants in US. That's 12 million people who aren't paying taxes or contributing to American society. if any of those people go into a hospital hard working tax payers are going to have to pay for them to get care.

Future President of the United States, it is essential that you clean up the mess that Obama has made. Our immigration situation is a complete mess. The number of illegal immigrants entering the United States is unacceptable. These people are taking our jobs, and dropping wages, contributing to overpopulation which leads to more schools and hospitals. These illegal immigrants are the problem, and they need to be removed. I strongly suggest we try to remove all illegal immigrants from the United States, and if they would like to reenter, then they apply to do so, legally.
We need to have a stricter boarder control, having this will increase job opportunity, especially if we build a larger wall. Improving our boarder safety can lead to less drug trading, less illegal immigration, and more jobs for the legal citizens of the United States. I strongly believe that illegal immigration is a huge problem, and it needs to be fixed right away.

Dear Mr. Future Presedent,
Illegal immigration has become a major problem over the years so far in the United States. Every year millions of immigrants (mexico being a huge factor) come into the us taking away jobs, housing, and they are making us build new schools, buildings, roads, and houses. This is a big mess that needs to get cleaned up. You need to do what Obama was unable to do. They are nothing more than extra cargo that the United States has no use of. So in order to stop this over populating problem, I suggest you fix it now because it is only getting worse. These people don't belong here. They should be out in their own country.

Immigration is undoubtedly a problem in the United States. But legal immigration should not be limited. Even though millions of new immigrants cause infrastructure problems, the skills that the immigrants bring are needed to maintain a strong economy. In order for people to legally enter, they must have a reason and a backer, such as a job in a hospital. These professionals are required in order to strengthen the US economy. Japan has shown as that a dormant population will cause a decrease in economic power.

On the topic of illegal immigration, something should be done. Illegal immigration is harmful for the country. In my opinion, there should be no amnesty for those who entered illegally and larger fines for employers who are found hiring illegals. A larger fence would be helpful, especially in the urban areas. I find it ridiculous how fencing is mostly on the edge of a border city, but then instantly stops a few hundred feet after the city limits. It is also very expensive to catch them crossing – in the “Border Wars” video, it took a helicopter and a team of people on vehicles to catch three immigrants. It is so easy for Mexicans to attempt to cross the border – the city of Altar offers a myriad of services for illegal immigrants. While it is disputable whether or not illegal workers benefit our economy through working low wage jobs and contributing to social security, drug trafficking is undeniably detrimental to our society. There should be harsher laws for drug traffickers who attempt to transport illegal substances across the border into the US.

President Obama,
Immigration is a huge concern in the United States, with those entering as well as the people already here. If I may recommend that we secure the boarder first then proceed to deal with those here. Yes, while reading a wall had good intentions, but it is easily bypassed. Another solution should be thought of. Many factors have to be weighed in, even though Mexicans immigrants are a bigger issue than Canadians, it’s still an issue. What I was thinking of didn’t involve a wall or billions of dollars, just a simple idea of patrolling and working with Mexico cooperatively. However, pertaining to the millions already here, I think it is perfectly fine if you can go up to someone and check for I. D. and verify that they are a citizen and if not then send them back. Racial profiling is irrelevant to this situation and if someone is expected then ask them. Our amendments have been changed so why not change them again.

Davana said...

I think a lot of the reason that immigration, especially undocumented immigration, is a problem is that this nation is sending mixed signals. The border patrol is working hard to keep people out, meanwhile so many employers (especially in the agriculture industry) are encouraging illegal immigrants because they are willing to hire them to work under-the-table. Many who argue that too many immigrants will wreck the social fabric of our country fight to keep immigration rates low, meanwhile the president is providing shelter for immigrants who have not committed violent crimes, and is even considering enacting amnesty. When a country is so divided within itself about how to deal with immigration, it isn't surprising that many immigrants can slip through the cracks in our divided approach to immigration. If we want to really crack down, we all need to be united in the US's approach to immigrants for the sake of the country. Employers need to stop encouraging illegal immigrants to enter the country for jobs, and Mr. Obama needs to put aside motives like gaining votes for the 2012 election and work harder to enforce immigration restrictions. With so much violence going on with the Mexican drug wars, it's crucial now more than ever to keep our country safe and allow only legal, tax-paying immigrants without criminal records to cross our borders.

To the next President of the United States:
Immigration is not all that bad. It is undeniable how much it contributes to the economy and most especially to the work force of this nation. It is an opportunity not only for immigrants who want to settle in America but also for small companies or dead-end jobs which will be supplied with a number of willing employees.

The problem is illegal immigration. The numbers are definitely alarming, and yet statistics may still even be cheated. The harm may never be completely undone, but it's never too late to try again. Legal immigration should not be limited, but I believe illegal immigration can be justified just as long as the motives are purely economical. However, the situation with Mexico is different, and since they are just in the borders, nothing is stopping them from jumping to the other side. Not to mention some of them also bring in illegal drugs to the country. Hence, border patrol and the US-Mexico border itself should be strengthened. Since the main reason most people migrate is to find better life elsewhere, it's only fair that we also hear them out. I think the idea of seasonal workers is the best way to help them and help this country at the same time. That way, it can be surmised that those who legitimately apply for entry are truly only looking for work while those who still insist on climbing the fence have other intentions and can be punished more severely.

Dear Future President of the United States,

Illegal immigration has become a major issue for the United States over the past years. The number of immigrants that are entering our country is out of control. I believe that the boarder patrol is trying their best to keep immigrants out, but it is hard to due so when employers of companies wanting to hire immigrants for work under the table for under minimum wage. Not only are they taking away available jobs, but also over populating the United States without paying taxes. For starters, I would get rid of as many of the illegal immigrants that are currently in our country. Then, I believe we should build a larger wall and have more security on the boarder. This will also increase jobs for many Americans. In the video, the class saw how difficult and time consuming it was just to catch a few people trying to cross the boarder. Therefore, a larger wall would be a good solution to the problem of illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is a major issue and if you do not stop it now, it will never be stopped.

Alex Bauer said...

To the future President of the United States, immigration has become an enormous problem for the country. We are currently facing problems with both the number of legal and illegal immigrants. Regarding the status of legal immigrants I believe that we should put a limit in place per year. This limit should be lower than the current limit and this way less people would come here. This would help control the population and slow the growth of the population which is something America needs. Restricting the number of legal immigrants would also increase job opportunities for Americans. I also think that it should be more difficult to become an American citizen, so that we do not take in just anyone. This would mean new immigration regualtions.
In dealing with illegal immigrants, we need to stop them. The illegal immigrants cause a great increase in the American population which is causing us to use up more resources than needed. Also many of them bring drugs and other commodities into our nation, which is something that needs to be stopped. In order to stop border crossing and smuggling I suggest that we put up not just a fence but a wall, a wall that can't be cut through. We should also update and improve the opticware used on the border and increase the number of guards on patrol. We should also try to work with Mexico and attempt to have them make some sort of law or system to stop their citizens from leaving.

Dear Future President of the United States,
Immigration, espicaially illegal immigration is one if not the biggest problems in the United States right now. At the rate of the illegal immigrants coming over, they might as well not even call it illegal immigration anymore. It is obsured how many illegal immigrants in our country. They are taking jobs away, adding to the oversized population. We need to build a wall that is bigger overall without spending too much money. We need to try and get most of them out now before more immigrants start coming. Only good things can come if we take out illegal immigrants. If you are true to your word then you should do the right thing and help America become a healthier cleaner place.

Dear Obama,
It's clear to everyone in the United States that illegal immigration is a huge problem that needs to be dealt with. We cannot keep doing small things to slowly help solve this problem because what were doing now is like taking one step forwards just to take another two or three steps back. With approximately twelve million illegal immigrants in the United States right now we need to create a way to keep out illegal immigrants that will give us an almost immediate result. What I propose is that we finish the fence across the Mexican border (remaking parts that are broken and/or ineffective), put more guards at the border, and make it a lot harder for immigrants to get a job in the United States.
There is also the problem of legal immigrants that have come here on visas or haven't renewed their citizenship. The way to solve this is simple, we just have to be more diligent and monitor these types of documentation more closely.

Savannah Henderson said...

Future President of the United States,
It is very apparent that immigration has become a prominent issue concerning our nation's social structure and economic status. A sharp increase in illegal immigration has lead to a decrease in available jobs for Americans who are legal citizens of the country, as well as a drop in wages for those who currently hold jobs. The rise in population also puts a strain on our natural resources. More goods and services are being used, which also creates a need for more schools, hospitals, etc. All this being said, something needs to be done to deter immigrants from entering the United States.
First of all, those who are already here illegally should not be granted amnesty. The 2005 Senate bill suggested a path to citizenship for those who successfully entered our country illegally, but many Americans would strongly oppose this option. If there are people in this country illegally, they should be removed as soon as possible. To become a citizen of the United States, one must go through the necessary steps to gain citizenship rather than flying under the radar and staying here undocumented. Also, the border control issue needs to be enhanced. The so called "fence" that is meant to keep out immigrants is clearly not efficient. To make this idea more effective, a wall should be built that cannot be broken through. Also, those individuals working on the border patrol need more advanced technology to detect the onslaught of illegal immigrants earlier than they are now.
Illegal immigration poses a huge threat to our nations economic and social stability. This issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible

Ryan Stanek said...

Dear future President of the United States,
I believe that immigration, specifically illegal immigration from the southern US border with Mexico, is a problem that is not being addressed enough by our government. The constant flow of illegal immigrants is slowly ruining our country, and will cause extreme problems in the future. These illegal immigrants are stealing jobs from good American citizens. Not only that, but they are even adding to an already overpopulated country. I propose that we pursue in finishing the fence completely covering the US-Mexico border. Most of these immigrants are crossing the border in the middle of the desert. If there is a fence across the entire border, illegally immigrating to America will be much more difficult. Furthermore, the flow of drugs from the mexican cartels will be greatly impacted by the fence. This would make it harder for these cartels to get their products across the border. The completion of the fence across the entire US-Mexico border would not only make illegal immigration strictly difficult, but it would also destroy the business of the the mexican drug cartels as well.

Dear President of the United States,
Illegal has always been a problem for our country and in recent years it has seen a dramatic incline that is crippling our nation. Illegal and legal immigrants are taking our jobs, setting wages lower, overpopulation the country, and damaging the infrastructure. Something has to be done in order to combat these problems that have risen.
There are many ways to deal with this issue such as making the borders along Mexico higher in security, controlling the flow of legal immigrants that come into the country, and putting more restrictions on businesses when hiring illegals. All of these will give hope to the country and aim to drive illegals away from our country if they cannot find work due to the restrictions. At this time, immigration is getting out of control and it is handicapping our economy and the success for our countries individuals. Something must be done in order to stop this before it is too late.

Dear Mr. Future President,
After viewing Immigration by the Numbers, I became extremely concerned for the future of America. The video showed the population growth over the years. It's predicted by the U.S. census bureau that by the year 2030, if immigration continues at the increasing rates, the numbers will sky-rocket and go off the charts. If we want to help the people in the third world, they have a better chance of getting help by staying where they are. Our country can help them to help themselves in their own country. Immigration also takes a toll on America. Our government can help in other ways such as working with the third world nations governments to teach them or financially help them with food products, energy, industry, and schooling. To secure our boarders, we need to be much stricter. A 700mile fence will not work. People have done everything and have been successful in crossing the boarder for hundreds of years. I don't think a fence is going to change anything. Plus, it will be very expensive and a waste of our time. We should remove all illegal immigrants to the best of our abilities. If they wish to enter, they must do so legally and apply for citizenship.

Ryan LeClerc said...

Dear Future President,
I believe that you have a lot on your plate when it comes to the important issue of immigration, especially illegal immigration. After seeing how immigrants actually don't cost the country in taxes, but rather give us billions of dollars each year, I realized that immigration isn't as bad as some people make it to be. I would suggest to you that we install a more high tech fence system specifically in and around the southern California border against Mexico. If we allow easier immigration processes with higher security we could possibly find a good balance to help boost our economy with the cheap labor that immigrants are willing to supply.

Eric Chen said...

Immigration presents to us a great problem in American society. Many feel that immigration harms our nation and feel a tad xenophobic. However, it is my opinion that we simply create easier paths to get into our country and to legalize the workers who area already here using a system similar to the system proposed in the 2006 Senate bill. The number of people immigrating into the U.S. should not be considered a burden, but rather helpful. Like Senator Larry Craig had said, immigrants contribute to our economy. They fill the low wage labor jobs that no one else is willing to fill and work hard. They pay their taxes without hope of collecting social security. And their numbers are even self regulating. They only come over as long as there are actually jobs to be had, hence the drop off in the current recession. Our U.S.-Mexico border should only be protected against terrorism and drug smuggling, not against those trying to find a better future in America.

To the future President of the United States,
It is apparent that immigration, primarily through illegal means, has become a more serious problem in the US over the past few years. Currently there are about 12 million illegal immigrants in the US, which contributes to overpopulation. These people put much strain on the country because they do not pay taxes, but still use the nation's infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads, etc.). Because they are here illegally, employers can pay these people under the table below minimum wage. Though this practice is beneficial for businesses, it is detrimental to unemployed Americans because they lose the openings to immigrants who will work for less money. As you can see, it is necessary to take some course of action to alleviate this stress.

In an ideal world, I would advise you to completely eliminate illegal immigration. However, the ideas of past presidents, such as building a wall or installing a "virtual barrier," have been ineffective in deterring illegal immigrants. For this reason investing more money into fortifying the border would be a waste. Instead, you should give incentives for businesses to turn away illegal immigrants, put laws in place to require verification of citizenship before employment, and utilize funds to crack down on the hiring of illegal immigrants. Finally, you should establish a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Even though they came here illegally, making them citizens would require them to pay taxes and thus generate some more revenue for the government.

Tony San said...

Immigration is a serious problem in the United States the number of illegal immigrants in the country at the time are not paying taxes and some are even committing crimes. When these people are caught if the crimes aren't considered serious they are just deported and that just gives them another chance to sneak back into our country illegally. These people sneaking back in are causing problems because our borders can't be protected with the number of people we have against the number of people trying to enter. One way to prevent people from sneaking back in would be to make being in the country illegally an actual crime that they will be punished for because with no punishment there is no reason for them to not try again. The best way to secure our borders is to get more patrols a few people cannot protect such a large area and sometimes one person is made to monitor miles of land where some of the illegal immigrants are not only trying to enter the country but doing illegal activity that can put our border patrol agents in danger. In the video it states that a fence would work but people would find new ways around it. The only way for the immigrants to not get around it would be for actual people to be protecting our borders we can't expect people to just stop entering the country the only thing we can do is reinforce the policies that we have. Another option would be to allow more immigrants in legally so then less will be entering illegally and legal immigrants are much easier to monitor and are helpful to our country filling job vacancies that people are currently not doing. By removing these people from the illegal immigrants our border patrol would have less trouble managing the border because they would have the same number of agents but less people trying to enter.

Immigration is an issue that has been relevant in America for a number of years now. Not only illegal immigration, but legal immigration is beginning to become a major issue because it is threatening aspects of our economy and directly affecting the lives of Americans. Huge waves of immigrants enter the country and take jobs that American citizens should have. Also, as more and more people come in the population continues to grow, but at an even faster rate causing our resources to be depleted quicker resulting in less resources for the nation as a whole.
Illegal immigration is the worst and has the most negative effects on our country. The influx of all these immigrants, especially those coming from the Mexican border, needs to halted or at least slowed down significantly. My suggestion to you, Mr. Future President, is that an impenetrable wall, not just a fence, needs to be erected along the entire border without depleting all of America's funds. In addition to that, better security and camera devices need to be installed along the entire border that actually work and do not have malfunctions and are not easily destroyed by natural causes. If these ideas are put into action and are done correctly, we will see the number of illegal immigrants drop significantly and many of the problems that stem from immigration into the United States cease to exist.

Dear Obama,
I believe that you should should allow immigrants that have been in the the United States for a long period of time and have started a life for themselves and their families a chance to become legal citizens of the U.S. Immigrants who have been in the United States for a long period of time shouldnt be sent back to the place where they came from if they are legally working and are making a living for themselves. You should come up with a certain time limit for when immigrants should be deported, such as immigrants who have been in the United States for 5 years or longer and have a job or are being sponsored by family should be allowed to stay in the US and allowed citizenship. You should start a policy for the immigrants who are here in the U.S. on a work visa stating that when their visa is up, they must go back to the country that they came from to fill at the appropriate papers to become a citizen and come back to the U.S. I also think that illegal immigrants who had just come over the border and have been here for a short period of time should be deported back to where they came from to apply to be a legal citizen. A bill that was proposed by the Senate in 2005 to President Bush indicated specific timelines for aliens to gain citizenship, those who should be deported, and what requirement that should be met to stay in the U.S. I think you should use some of these ideas.
To secure the border, I think having some sort of wall or fence is a good idea, but I don’t think the government should be spending all their money on high tech programs for the border when they don’t know if its even going to work. I think the government should have more of an organized system for monitoring the border and who comes across it. If there are policies in place to allow citizenship within a reasonable time period, then maybe less illegal aliens will try to sneak into the United States.

Dear Future President of the United States,
Its pretty obvious here that we have a enormous problem here with illegal immigrants coming in witch is adding more people to the population (witch will grow),and are making more problems for us to face and is not fair. This has been going on for a long time and different presidents have tried different things and the people still figure a way to get around it and escape. There are about twelve million illegal immigrants in the united states all around. There not paying taxes, and are living here for free witch makes it harder on us. One person may seem like nothing but twelve million I think will add up. We need to stop doing small things to keep them out and try bigger things that will prevent them from coming. Stoping the illegal immigrants coming can greatly reduce the amount of stress everyone has now from them coming in and going through all the trouble and money. Before you know it the population will be over populated because of all the people coming in. Sometimes when people try and sneak through its not only one person there usually in groups up to five. They can either be bringing in drugs, money, weapons, or anything illegal. Them doing that also greatly increases the danger that will be coming in. Everyday there are hundreds off dollars being brought it for dugs or weapons. The U.S. is also having a problem with legal immigrants because they try and come here with expired passes and hope to get by. I think each states should definitely do something to help prevent illegal immigrants from keep coming it, if they did it would help them stay out and would make them harder to get in. Something needs to be done as soon as possible, everyday immigrants are trying to sneak through and hope not to get caught, Border patrol is doing there best but needs to find new ways and traps to catch them whenever they are out in the dessert.

Dear Future President,
Immigration has been a problem in the United States now for quite some time. I believe we are not treating this issue with enough concern and therefore the constant flow of illegal immigrants has not ceased to enter the country. Drawn to the states with the hope of jobs and better opportunity, these illegal citizens are occupying jobs that are so scarce and hard to come by in such a poor economical situation. Furthermore, these immigrants are committing crimes in a land where they are trespassing, occupying our jails, and being fed by our tax money! They themselves do not even pay the taxes required as a citizen of the United States.

In order to discourage the overpopulating waves of immigration, we must make America less accessible and attractive to them. Since the job opportunities are acting as the magnets of immigration, it is crucial to enforce strict rules stating both large and small businesses must hire only legal citizens of the united states. In addition, more advanced technology should be applied to defending our borders against these intruders. The combination of more secure borders and less job opportunity will surely reduce immigration into America.

Dear Mr. President, Illegal immigration is a growing problem in the Unites States. Today United States estimates that there are at least twelve million illegal immigrants in the U.S. and that number is increasing every day.
Personally I support legal immigration, but when it comes to the illegal I as the majority of our people dont support the idea of illegal immigration especially now when our economy is not in the best shape.
So far we tried a lot of ways, such as building higher fans, also including high technology supplies but that seems to fail every time. My suggestion is to increase the patrol number at the borders and also create an agreement with the Mexican government so they will do they part as well to stop the illegal immigration. Also I suggest creating stronger laws that prohibits hiring illegal employers.
All and all i dont think that illegal immigration will ever stop but i believe that we can and should reduce the number every year by taking stronger steps.

In “Immigration by the numbers”, Roy Beck expresses his desire to return to the “golden age” of immigration, limiting the number of immigrants allowed to enter the country to roughly 200,000 a year. While the idea of such a quota seems sensible due to the need of supplying American citizens with employment options, it is essentially impractical in our growing economy and population. I think Obama should sustain the consistent flow of immigrants into our country at about 500,000 a year for multiple reasons. First, completely diminishing the number of immigrants we allow into our country each year will inevitably cause illegal immigration to increase. In turn our federal budget will have to increase border patrol expenses and homeland security improvements. Also, our country needs foreigners to come to our country to not only maintain a sense of diversity and worldliness, but they are absolutely critical to our economic growth and expansion. Employment opportunities for Americans are of plenty these days, but a main reason why we aren’t filling those positions is because there is a scarce amount of qualified workers. If we bring in skilled professionals from foreign nations that can competently fill a position, such as a chemist, then our economy will only benefit. There is a delicate balance between allowing immigration and defending against illegals, and I believe 500,000 is the right number. As for granting amnesty to illegal immigrants already in our borders, I believe our government should continue to be able to grant amnesty as long as that immigrant has found work of some sort and agrees to pay all back taxes. Also, seeing as though only 32 miles of our 700 mile border with Mexico is covered with fence, covering that entire distance is seemingly impossible. I think we should cut funds regarding putting up more fencing and just increase the number of our homeland security officers and patrol men, along with increased funding for progression in communication and defensive technology.

Hannah Purtell said...

The issue of immigration is one of the many controversial issues faced by our government. Many people argue that in a country that is based upon the principles of a hard work ethic bringing success, everyone should be given a chance to live the American Dream. On the other hand, with too many people vying for this same opportunity, it can be detrimental to our economy. We need to put a firm policy into place regarding immigration in order to ensure that our country remains stable economically and socially.
I don;t think that immigration in general should be hindered, as Roy Beck argues in “By the Numbers”, but illegal immigration should definitely be curtailed. Each year thousands of immigrants pass American borders, undocumented and unaccounted for in society. Now, there are about 12 million illegal immigrants in America, and they are putting a strain on our already strained economy with their willingness to accept menial jobs for very low pay. Obama needs to focus on stopping illegal immigrants from entering the country in the first place. As it would be extremely costly to build a wall on the US/Mexico border, as well as being ineffective in certain cases, the government needs to begin exploring other options for stopping the flow of illegal immigrants into America. Though it is much easier said than done, I think that Obama should try to work out some sort of agreement with the Mexican government and increase the number of Border Patrol officers to ensure that undocumented workers and immigrants cannot make it over our borders. Instead all immigrants should be forced to legally apply.

Dear Future President of the United States,
The border between the United States and Mexico has been a reoccurring conflict that needs to be solved. People known as "coyotes" who traffic mexicans into America need to be stopped. Although it is important that the United States allows new people to come into this country it is very important that they are all authorized. A total of 55% of the Mexicans living in this country are unauthorized. That is an estimate of 11.9 million people living in the United States without proper ownership. Personally, I feel as though it would be proper to give these unauthorized citizens green cards. However, it is much more important that tax payers money goes to funds which will help border patrol between the U.S. and Mexico. The United States can not afford to keep harboring any citizens without proper ownership.

Dear Mr. President,
I am sure that you know the importance of dealing with immigration. It has become a major topic in debates and is important to so many people in the country. Action must be taken to deal with immigration and the choice that is made will affect everyone in the United States. First, you must deal with the illegal immigrants in the United States. These people are taking jobs from Americans, and they are getting the benefits of being in the American society without paying taxes. The best way to deal with these people is to make the punishments much worse to those who hire the illegal immigrants and to the immigrants themselves. The illegal immigrants should be deported as soon as possibleIf the penalties are greater to employers of illegal immigrants, there would be fewer jobs for them which would slow the amount coming into the country. That is another problem that must be dealt with. The borders of the country let in hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants each year. This must be slowed because it is leading to a dangerous increase in population. Overall immigration must be limited in order to slow the growth of the United States population. The borders must also be protected. The amount of illegal immigrants and narcotics that comes in through the borders of the country make the protection of the border very important. The United States must be willing to focus on this issue and put time and effort into it so. The best way to do this is to use the radar sensors and other technology that was tried by Boeing. This technology must be the best there is and the country must be willing to put their resources into it. A whole-hearted effort will prevent a failure like last time, when the country tried to spend as little money as possible on the border solution.

Dear President of the United States,

With the numbers of immigrants continuously entering into our country, things are starting to get a bit crowded. Some rules needs to be enforce for the immigration laws. The amount of people let in needs to be reduced. “Immigration by the Numbers” shows a very accurate prediction for future population being off the charts. So many people mostly from Mexico as sneaking into the country and there seems to be not very much we can do about it. Way to much government funding is being put into protecting the boarder. Instead of waisting so much money on stoping people from coming in because it doesn’t seem to be to effective, we should worry more about the illegal immigrants already in the U.S. It is not fair to the people actually trying to be a legal citizen by going through the process the right way. I believe that in order for a man to be given the right to being a legal citizen he has to show that he is not only willing to benefit himself but also his country. So shorten the list of immigrants, but don’t be unfair to those who deserve it, kick out those here illegally.

As for keeping our boarders safe and free from drug cartel, the radar cameras although costly can be very effective. The cameras take the guessing out of where the smugglers and immigrants are. This will lead to many more arrest and a lot less drug flow into our country. The cameras are a much better investment then fencing that can be easily gotten over or even under.

Dear President of the United States

Both legal and illegal immigration has been problem in the United States. In dealing with situation, i think stricter policies are necessary to prevent influx of immigrants from happenning. There are already approximately 12 million immigrants. With these huge mass of people, population is saturating. As Senator Roy Beck demonstrated with chart and gumball, population will dramatically increase even farther unless strict policy to regulate immigration is entailed. Immigrants are occupying jobs and this attributes to less opportunity for people to find the job. More consturction of infrastructure is also inevitable because more immigrants come into the United States annually. In terms of finding jobs and money, immigrants has been burden to people. There are also many illegal immigrants who sneak from Mexican border and some of them even brings drugs. Implement of stricter policies in immigration is urgent not to make situation worse.

Dear President Obama,
Immigration is one of the biggest topics in politics today, as well as one of the most divided topics. I think that before making a decision we need to look at all of the issues concerning our country about immigration, but also how it could help.
There are many arguments against immigration such as the strain on our infrastructure, immigrants taking away jobs, the cost to taxpayers, and over population. However, people that argue for immigration bring up some very good points. In the USA we still have a shortage of jobs in certain fields, immigrants pay taxes, they contribute .5 trillion dollars to our social security, and are willing to take the lower wage jobs that an average American will not.
When comparing and contrasting these differences I believe that something should be done about the amount of immigrants allowed to enter the country. I agree with the arguments made against immigration when talking about infrastructure because at this rate we will have to make double of everything (schools, hospitals, etc). I think that it is a good thing that we allow immigrants to come abroad to study because it increases our countries opportunities and strengthens our overall intelligence. Immigrants who are prospective in fields that we need such as the sciences should be allowed to enter. Though as far as illegal immigrants are concerned, they should not be allowed to freely enter the country because like the man with the gumballs said, we cannot help all third world countries.
The ultimate plan that I would suggest is to make it harder and more strict at the borders. There needs to be more patrol down at the borders to ensure illegal immigrants do not pass into America. It's not right that illegal immigrants do not pay taxes and if we decrease the amount of illegal immigrants there will be more job opportunities for legal citizens, less drug trade, and less infrastructure we would have to build. Not only do we have to put more patrol on the border, but there should be harsher penalties for employers that encourage and have illegal immigrants working for them so that illegal immigrants won't want to come to the USA.

Dear President Obama,
The immigrant rates are rising so much every year, and there are arguments about them, because not all of them are illegal immigrants. Some of these people coming in are people we are letting in and grow our country more. The more people we have in the US, the less space we have for national parks and land trust because we have to build not only homes, but schools and safety for the amount of people coming in and living here. These people are taking jobs that other people that have lived here for a while may need. Now some of these jobs are the jobs that most people don't want, but they are taking it at a lower rate of income. It is said that even illegal immigrants pay more in the country than they make, showing that they do spend the money, but they still aren't paying taxes in the country. To keep the illegal immigrants out, we need a better watch on the borders to stop them from coming in, but not only from getting in, from drug trafficking across the borders. Border patrol needs to be stronger to keep these people out. When the immigrants are caught crossing, they should not just be released back into their country, if its a first offence they should be, but after that, they should have a different type of punishment so they will not get into the country. If we don't control how many people come into the country there won't be enough resources to house everyone and keep them all here.

Future President of the United States,
Immigration is a large problem currently facing this country and it needs to be dealt with.Illegal and legal immigrants are causing many problems. Such as jobs, dropping wages, overpopulation, and not paying taxes. A solution I have is to strengthen the boarders to keep new illegal immigrants out. this way we can focus on the illegal immigrants currently in the country. we can increases penlites against businesses that hire illegal immigrants to try and prevent them from getting work. we can also deport all illegal immigrants with criminal history to get out of the country. we should also allow some the illegals the chance to become citizens. The 2005 Senate bill suggested a path to citizenship for those who entered our country illegally, i believe this is a good idea. the main point im trying to make is we need to stop new illegal immigrants from coming in and deal with the ones here

It must be said, Mr. President, that your past four years in this office have not seen an adequate addressing of the immigration issue. Immigrant life has an influence on every sector of life; in some cases, that influence can be the Sisyphusean struggle that our border patrol has to face, the cost of emergency care for illegal immigrants, and the undermining of federal policies by companies looking for cheap labor. In many other cases, immigrants come legally, bringing with them advanced skills and contributing to American success in global industries such as Biotechnology. Regardless of exactly what the case may be, I recommend a number of initiatives that will provide the immigration reform our nation needs. First, in regards to legal immigration, a more open, friendly policy needs to be implemented. Contrary to the beliefs held by Mr. Beck, replacement level immigration is a hindrance to our nation’s ability to compete on a global scale. The days of American domination over all walks of life are over; many of the brightest, most creative ideas in engineering, biotechnology, and other industries are being brought up in Europe, China, and elsewhere. By allowing high levels of immigrants into the country, and offering them incentives to move here and work in their fields, we will be able to increase the amount of raw talent contributing to our GNP. America should not be a nation of privileged minorities and closed doors; rather, we should provide an immigration and naturalization process that talented minds are flocking to, not intimidated by. As far as illegal immigration goes, it must be admitted that there is very little we can do to enforce our borders more firmly than we do now. As long as the United States offer opportunities that are not available elsewhere, there will be people willing to risk detection and enter the country illegally. Rather than invest more resources in walls, armed patrols, or any other measure that comes off as hostile (and is ultimately ineffective), illegal immigration should be approached in a more diplomatic way. Aliens who have established themselves for a number of years should be given a legal process towards citizenship; not only has this person proven themselves to be a productive member of society, but their status as a citizen affords them civil liberties, and opens an entirely new door for tax revenue. Where we should “toughen up” should be in response to companies and businesses willing to employ illegal immigrants for substandard wages. This practice attracts countless immigrants to the United States, and suggests a sort of capitalism in which laborers are treated with far less than decent human respect, and are paid pittances to save a few dollars for the business as a whole. Our current immigration policies do not portray an America that I am necessarily proud of; if change can come to how we treat those that yearn to join us, then I firmly believe the next four years of your presidency will be fruitful beyond compare.

Dear future president.
I believe that illegal immigration is bad for our country. I do because it takes away money for hard working Americans that need the money to help stableize the economy. I also feel that jobs in American are ment for Americans and should not be givin away to anyone else.
I do feel that we need to control the amount of illegal immigrants for the good of our country
