Memorial Day is the day, of course, where we as Americans are here to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice veterans have given for this country and the freedom we enjoy today because of the most courageous out of all of us. There are many veteran issues that are still broken until this very day, and make me sad to see. The first of course is the unnecessary wars that the United States has participated in. The invasion in Iraq, in my opinion, was not the best decision by the government at the time and so many have given their lives to go into harm’s way because of that. But, on Memorial Day, I would like to set politics aside for a minute and come to terms with the fact that whether one agrees with the conflict or not, everyone can agree that the bravest out of all of us deserves the most from this country. There are countless of stories where Veteran’s hospitals become under funded or veteran’s families are unable to claim the benefits they very much deserve. So on this Memorial Day, congress should do some serious soul searching and find it in themselves to improve veterans facilities, make sure that there is both physical and mental help for all veterans returning from service, enact a “GI Bill” which will allow returning veterans and their families college education so they can play a role in our workforce, and end our conflicts overseas as soon as possible so our finest can be out of harm’s way.

To me Memorial Day is a day to honor the Veterand that have served our country. They have put their lives at risk for all of us and this day is ment for the Veterans to get pride in what they have done. We honor them by having parades and when we see a Veteran we give them a handshake and thank them for their courageous decisions. Memorial Day is one of the very important holidays in America.

Memorial Day is more than a day off from school where we can go to barbecues and shop for items on sale. It is a day where we should remember our nation's brave soldiers, who, since the founding of our nation went in harm's way to protect our nation, ourselves, and our way of life. We owe these men and women a debt that no day of recognition will ever fulfill. We owe these soldiers our freedom, and more, our happiness.
I think about veterans in a lot of ways on Memorial Day. My family attends the Memorial Day parade in our town every year, and everyone is off of work in school so we have time to get together and appreciate our way of life, and how it is because of what the soldiers did for us, and for America. Veterans have given Americans the ultimate gift, and we think of them and their incredible sacrifices every day.

I am sorry to say that unfortunately for many, including myself, Memorial Day has lost its meaning in the past couple of years. It is a day to remember those who gave their lives for our country. I am fortunate enough, that the veterans in my family (father, great-uncle, etc.) did not lose their lives, therefore Memorial Day has since become a patriotic holiday in which I spend more time enjoying the day off with my family than actually remembering lost veterans. It is a horrible thing to admit, but it’s true; I keep the meaning of the holiday in the back of my mind, and I may watch a war movie or a History Channel special that day, but that is as far as my remembrance goes for that day. It saddens me when I think of how many people, like me, are taking their day off for granted. Memorial Day should not be confused with Veteran’s Day which celebrates the living veterans in our country who risked their lives for us.

Memorial Day is a very, very important day in this nation and I believe every American needs to pay respect to past and present soldiers for risking their lives for our freedom. This day also means remembering wars and those who have died for our country. Everyone should pay their respects on this day and I myself have high respect for people who serve/-d this country.

Thankfully, for me Memorial Day is more than a day off from school. Every year I do take a little time to think about those who gave up their lives, so we could have our freedoms today, and it makes me very proud to live in this country. To me this day is all about being proud and thankful for our freedom, and thankful to those who served this country, and we should all take a little time to reflect on that.

I personally believe Memorial Day has lost not only its meaning but its respect from the public as a holiday where its not about us. If we Americans would see past ourselves and put aside all the "50% discounts on everything in the store" we would be able to see that these men and women once lived here and that their sacrifice was meant to help better our country and our future for a better world. I come from a family of war veterans. My dads father served as a medic in WWII ON DDAY! and my uncle Tony served in the Gulf War as C 130 pilot and my moms dad served in the Navy during WWII and Korea. They have expressed dissapointment that the very country they served was now using a holdiay that was supposed to be about their service into a corporate holiday.

I think that too many people get so caught up with the barbeques and the day off from school that they forget the real purpose of Memorial Day, which is to commemorate those who died while fighting for our country. I honor and remember these soldiers by going to the parade here in our town, or by watching a memorial service on TV. I think people too quickly forget that the reason we can enjoy this day and go to parties with our family and friends is because we are protected by the men and women who have risked their lives (and lost them) to keep our country safe. I feel that everyone needs to consider this on Memorial Day, and maybe appreciate a little more all that our veterans have done for us.

I personally think Memorial Day is one of the most important days of the year. The Veterans deserve so much respect for what they have done for our country. They have seen things that we cant even imagine. Some of those changing they way they see things for the rest of their lives. They risk thier lives for our freedom and safety. We shouldnt need a day to show respect to our Veterans we should do it all the time whether you agree with what they fougt/fighting for doesnt matter, they still go out and risk their lives for thier country. I always think about the Vietnam Veterans and all they have been through and how some are still suffering from the tour. Nate Ivey

Memorial day is "technically" a day to remember and celebrate all that our veterans have done for us, but for most people, it has lost all meaning. I am included in this category of "most people," because I do not spend the time to recognize the veterans other than leading the marching band during the parade as they play Tribute to America and then saluting the stand of veterans in front of the school on the parade route. However, despite this patriotic act, I do not do it because I feel the need or desire to recognize the veterans but because it is what is expected of me. For many people, memorial day is nothing but another day off from school and work. It is a day for people to congregate and "catch up" with a few sodas or beers along with a couple of burgers and hot dogs. For my family and I, it typically means the same as what I have just described however, this year was different. This year, memorial day was a day for chores. It was a day to clean the whole house and paint the patio. So the question, what does memorial day mean to me? The answer depends on the situation and the year, but it most certainly does not include spending the time to honor our veterans.

I believe Memorial Day is very important. It is a chance for all Americans to pay respect to the people who protect the country we live in. Veterans are they brave that put their life on the line for us everyday so we can live in a free country. Memorial Day is a day were all American's come together to honor and thank those who have gave their life for our country. We show our thanks through many ceremonies, parades, and parties, and it's easy to say that some Americans have lost the meaning of what Memorial Day is really all about. I think it's great how schools are involved in Memorial Day teaching students the true meaning of it and why we should be thankful to our veterans. Memorial Day isn't just to honor the fallen or the veterans but it is to honor those soldiers who are serving today. Many of these soldiers are young and have so much life to experience but yet the put their life on the line everyday to ensure that America is safe. That is why we must honor and thank our soldiers and veterans on Memorial Day.

I think Memorial Day is a day to remember those soldiers that fought for our country. It is a day to honor those who have lost their lives fighting for our countries freedom. I respect our war veteran’s everyday but on Memorial Day I remember them. I do this by going to the parade with my family. While I am there I remember that I wouldn’t be living the life I am today if it wasn’t for them. Memorial Day is more than just a day off from school, it is a day to respect others and their families that had to go to war and serve our country. Everyone has a connection to someone that has fought so everyone should respect the veterans. They fought for our countries freedom and they have given us the luxuries we have. If it wasn’t for them fighting for us and being so brave we wouldn’t be living the same way we are today. I thank them all for being so brave and I believe that we should honor them everyday. We need to respect them and honor them everyday rather then only on Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is a very important day for us Americans. On this day, we honor the many people who sacrificed their lives and fought for our country. It's a day that should be more payed attention to. Memorial Day isn't just a day off from school, it's a day to pay respects and remember those who risked their lives so bravely. These people are the ones we should look up to and idolize. They're the ones who brought us our freedom and we should never forget that.

Memorial Day is an extremely important day not only to me but all across the nation. In my eyes Americans do an amazing job respecting our past and present soldiers, who risk their lives to insure our freedom. On this day we remember the wars America has fought in, as well as remembering the brave soldiers who have died defending our country. Because of their bravery and loyalty our country and the people who live in it have gained rights and equality thus making a stronger nation. Everyone pays respect on this day in many different ways; I spend the day with my uncle who is a veteran, while others might visit ones they have lost, go to D.C., or a Memorial Day parade.

I think Memorial Day is taken for granted by a lot of people, especially now a days. When I was younger, I didn't really care a whole lot about Memorial Day. All I was really concerned about was that we had a day off from school. Down the road though I learned that it was much more than that.

The amount of strength and bravery those soldiers faced was incredible. Our nation would not be what it is today if had not been for them and I think that is what people don't realize when the day comes around every year.

My grandpa served in WW2 and I can't even imagine what that was like. He stormed Normandy and after watching Saving Private Ryan, I give all those soldiers credit for putting there life on the line everday, just so we can have a better life, here in the U.S.

I believe as a nation we should have a moment of silence every year to commemorate all those soldiers who have sacrificed there life. I believe they were that important to our country, and they deserve the utmost respect from all of us, not just on Memorial Day, but every day of our lives.

Although Memorial Day is known as a day off for high schoolers, where you go to barbecues and enjoy the day off, it serves a much bigger purpose. It is to take a day to think and reflect on the veterans who served our country. They gave us the freedom that we are able to have today, and this is a day to recognize this. These veterans have put their lives at risk for us and this day is for the Veterans to get pride in what they have done. Different towns do different events in order to show their recognition. For example, we honor them by having parades and when we see a Veteran we give them a handshake and thank them for what they have chose to do for us. Everyone should show their respects on this day, including myself.

Memorial day to me is the same as it is to many other Americans; it is a day to thank the brave men and women who gave their lives to defend our Country. It’s a day to reflect on past military campaigns and see bravery in its purest form, humans risking their lives to make the lives of other humans (they don’t know) better. I often find myself reflecting on past military campaigns and thinking “was it really worth it?” Did we have to get involved and loose so many men and women? I’ll stop before I go on an anti war rant, although I never support war, I do support the troops. They are heroes, and their bravery should be rewarded and honored.

A tragic occurrence that has plagued our nation in the past decade or so is the fact that the nation almost entirely has shifted its focus of Memorial Day to the complete wrong idea. As the sales and barbecues carry on, Americans are to caught up in the "no work, no school "mentality, that people forget the true meaning of Memorial Day. Thankfully, town, state, and national parades salvage what little true meaning they can from the American public. The true meaning, to honor American veterans who have served in times of crisis for our nation, has seemingly slipped away. I try my absolute best to watch and attend things pertaining to Memorial Day and personally, just be thankful whether the whole rest of the world knows it or not, a person just needs to remind themselves of what Memorial Day really means. Memorial day should be emphasized for what it REALLY means, rather than all the holiday sales that are at Macy's and Target on TV. It means, to me, that there were soldiers who gave up their lives to protect our freedom and they absolutely need not to be forgotten and we, as American people, should do more and more every Memorial Day to honor them.

I think that Memorial Day is the day that we honor all those who fell in service to the United States, its people, and the entire world. These brave men and women gave their lives so that the ideals of America can go on existing. It is a time to reflect on what America and freedom truly mean, and how lucky we are to have the freedoms we do here in our country.

Memorial Day is the day to remember those who have died in action but not only those people but also people that are still living that fought in the war. These veterans have put their life on the line to save our coun try to protect us and it is the least we can do is to have a day for them. On Memorial day, I like to think about all of these veterans because sometimes these veterans have not been thanked for their duties and often in bad conditions, post war. I think everyone should think about them everyday because they are giving the most sacrifice in putting their life on the line for us.

Memorial Day to me means a lot because my father, uncle, and both of my grandpa’s were part of various military factions. Every year on Memorial Day we go to the parade in Naugatuck with all of my cousins and uncles and aunts and we remember the veterans who passed and those who still live. Days like Memorial Day make us remember those who fought and died for our country to keep us safe. For every soldier who passes in combat it is an immense tragedy however soldiers who pass do so to keep this country safe and that is why we should remember them with respect and thank them for their sacrifices. So instead of focusing on going out to shop and barbeque we should stop and take a step back and thank all of those people who have given their lives to protect this country.

Memorial Day means different things to everyone. I can admit it means a bit less to me only because even though both my parents were in the air force, they served their time while there was no war to fight. Other than that, I don't know anyone who has served in the military.

This doesn't mean I don't realize the significance of Memorial Day to other people. In order to honor all the men and Women who died for our country, I participate in the Memorial Day Parade every year as part of community service.

when i hear the day memorial day i think about how important it is to have a day like this one. a day where we dedicate everything we have to the solders that risked there lives to fight for are country. i feel its the least we can do. i feel that slowly we are forgetting what this day really is all about. we all think of it as a day off of school a time for barbecues, day where everyones pools open up and although those are all great things to have on those day we must not forget what we are celebrating on this day. when we see a veterans that day we go up to them and thank them for risking there lives to fight for are country. to me this day is a day were we stop are normal days and give it up to those who deserve it the most, are veterans. i think of it not just as a day to get together with family have great dinners but to remember the people who fought for us.

Memorial Day is a day to honor the veterans who fought for our country and for the many who lost their lives fighting. It shows the respect that we have for all of these great people. They risked their lives and had to deal with things that I could never imagine. Their lives were greatly affected and changed forever. If it weren’t for them we would not have the lifestyle that we do today. Everyone honors Memorial Day in a different way. In Cheshire we have a parade and the community comes together to show our support and respect. Everyone, including on myself needs to focus more on the real mean of Memorial Day and think about its importance to us.

Memorial Day is a day designated for us U.S. citizens to remeber those we have served and those who are currently serving our country. I think that most people have forgotten the whole point of Memorial Day and think of it as a day of fun to go to picnics and parades. We should all relfect on and take time to think about those who have lost their lives. Without our veterans we would not have the freedom that we do today. Memorial Day, to me, is the most important holiday in this country. I thank all veterans who serve for us!

Memorial day is not a day for just the bbq's, the first time by the pool but the reasons that we have these luxuries. This day off of school is to remind us that some brave men and women have given the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country safe. On this day we should not have to deal with to controveries about war. For this one day we should put aside our feelings and just pay tribute to the men and women.

For me as my brother, who attends a military college and will be a Marine, this day will mean more to me. As he has told us it is most likely that he will be deployed to Afghanistan within the next 3 years. I feel that if he is giving up some of his freedom that others should pay him and others vets and current members of the military the upmost respect.

It is truely and honor for every single person that has fought for us fellow Americans and on that day, every American should cherish what they accomplished for us.

Memorial day to me, means something special. It has me respecting and honoring the men and women that fight for our country and the ones that have fought for our country. I personally have family in war/was in war and so this day has very special meaning to me. To know they might not come home alive is a scary thought but honoring the ones that should be honored, it is an encouraging day.

When you think memorial day you think, day off long weekend. But if you really look into it and take the time to think on all the veterans who survived their own mental and physical battles. The wars have effected these men who were forced to break the almost code of humans ,to not kill other humans. The men who saved our borders and pushed back against strikes and invasions. So, what im trying to say is I look at memorial day as a day of prayer for the heroic soldiers who died in battles protecting America, and those living soldiers who survived the epic battles.

Memorial Day is a very special day to my family and myself. My grandfather was a veteran of WW2, Vietnam, and Korea. Sadly, he passed away a number of years ago to cancer. My father is also a veteran, but I can't remember which war it was at the moment. The day is very important, in that it gives us all a chance to honor our past war heroes, and to look on to the future with renewed hope and determination. Veterans need to be reminded why they are special, and Memorial Day lets the entire US public do just that.

Unknown said...

I don't have any family who have fought in an American war and as a result Memorial Day is a little different to me. I support and remember all of the brave soldiers who have fought to keep this country free and united, my parents even, who were born abroad take Memorial Day very seriously and pay their remembrances to our fallen heroes. Personally Memorial Day is a day to look back and remember the sacrifices all our nation's soldiers have made to preserve what we love most about this country. We may (as a nation) be divided about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but on Memorial Day we all come together to honor those who have protected us. Therefor to me and my family Memorial Day is an important holiday.

On Memorial Day I immediately think of the brave men and women who are serving or have served in our armed forces. These are the men and women who have put, and sometimes given, their lives to defend our freedoms. On this day I think to my grandfather as well who served in the European theater of World War II. It is because of men like him who gave up everything they were doing to go to a foreign land to defend the freedom of people they would never know, that I am proud to call myself an American. America has and always will be a stabilizing force in the world. Our military is way to badass to be trifled with. So on Memorial Day, think of these brave men and women who are protecting our freedoms.

Typically on Memorial Day, it’s a day to relax and enjoy the day off. But I know that it’s more than that, it is a day to honor the veterans and what they did for our country. Although I do not believe in war, and if called to war would choose not to go, I do appreciate what the veterans have done for us, and how they have protected us. It does give the veterans a feeling of importance and gratitude, which they definitely deserve. Without them we wouldn’t live in the country we do now.

Memorial Day is a time to pause and to think of all the people who have devoted themselves to protecting our country, and who have died in service. On Memorial Day, I separate myself from all my political views on wars, and take the time to consider the fact that the U.S. military is comprised of people, of individuals. I consider what these individuals must have experienced during their service to our country, and how they and their families are affected. Even if I do not always agree with the reasons that the US sent these individuals to war, I take a moment to remember and honor the men and women who have fought and died on our behalf, and to consider all the sacrifices they have made for the U.S.

Memorial Day to me is really important. It's a day dedicated to the veterans who have put their lives at risk for the sake of their country. They are so couragious and on this day people throw memorial day parades in honor of them. Memorial Day is special to me because my godmother's son is at war right now and I worry about him everyday. He tells me not to be worried, that he wants to be out there fighting for our country. And that is why we should honor the vets. I think some people take them for granted, but they truly help make this country as great as it is.

Personally, Memorial Day doesn't mean much to me and I feel that it has lost it's meaning. I personally don't have veterans in my family, so my family doesn't do anything to celebrate memorial day. I really wish I can say that Memorial Day is a day that my family comes together and honor the war veterans. But since my entire family came from China and my sisters and I are the only ones in my family that learned the true meaning of memorial Day, that's just not the case. Personally I am grateful for all of the things the veterans have done for this country. And I do think of them from time to time. But Memorial Day for me sadly is just another day off of school, a day for the parade, a day to catch up on school work, or whatever comes on that certain memorial day.

Memorial Day is a reminder of all the great ideas and beliefs our country represents and how we owe it to the men and women who have defended those ideas and beliefs we so freaky enjoy. The veterans and current soldiers of today have dedicated their lives to sustaining the peace and democratic beliefs we treasure. It is extremely important to recognize the efforts of these men and women because we are extremely lucky to live in such a strong country while other countries face turmoil everyday, in every aspect of life, damaging the stability of the country's livelihood. When I think of veterans I am utterly in awe of all the great things they have contributed and I wholeheartedly believe that each and everyone of them deserves unconditional respect and recognition for their great efforts in protecting our country.

He along with the other war veterans, did what I could never do. They had the courage and strength to fight when our country needed it. I honor those who have lost their lives and those who survived by going to the parade with my family.

The history and reasoning behind Memorial Day is often forgotten when students hear about their upcoming three-day weekend. A student myself, I admit to falling into that same category. Memorial Day to me was just another day off from school which meant more time to procrastinate on homework or projects. Watching the Wreath-Laying Ceremony, however, has changed my views of this annual event. I learned the true meaning of this day heard examples of fallen soldiers whose remembrance will continue due to this day. This is why Memorial Day is important and should not be seen as just another day off from school, but as a day of remembrance.

Memorial Day is a very important day in America as it devoted to remembering the lives of those who fought for our freedom and security. Unfortunetly, I believe that Americans overlook this day and see it as just a day off from school to have time for barbeques and picnics. We should really take the time out of our day to honor the men and women who fight for our country and who keep the U.S. safe and free of turmoil. By watching the memorial day parade, or another form of service, it shows our respect to the soldiers who protect us everyday.

I would say that the average person does not really “get” Memorial Day. The three first things to pop into the average person’s mind upon the mention of Memorial Day tend to be a day off, a parade, and a cookout. Should an indignant vet reproach the aforementioned average person, that person’s reaction would be likely to be something along the lines of, “Oh, yeah… that… why yes of course, I’m here to honor our vets—especially the dead ones—fallen, fallen ones (aside: euphemism, remember the euphemism)—want a hot dog?”
It can be difficult to get enthusiastic about Memorial Day, especially when no one seems to care about any aspect deeper than the festivities, but I think there’s more to the problem than that. I dislike the big, grandiose ways in which the politicians always talk about the days, it makes the soldiers’ sacrifice seem unreal. They were men who cared enough about their country to kill and die for it, and that’s what they did, plain and simple, no frills, no slimy membrane of political BS.
As for how do I think of the veterans? Mainly I’m just grateful that my cousin made it back from the Iraq debacle with all his limbs still attached and even more grateful that his brain still works right.

To me, Memorial Day is a day when we celebrate our veterans and honor the ones who have died in past wars. However, I feel that many have lost sight of the real meaning of Memorial Day. Instead, everyone is having cook-outs, pool-parties, soccer tournaments, and an excuse for a long weekend. I like the fact that ceremonies, such as the one in Arlington National Cemetary, are shown on TV because I think it reminds people of what we are actually celebrating. Even school-wide events such as the Korean War Veterans Day teaches students to respect their veterans. I am even reminded myself, as it is easy to get caught up with the "celebrating" and not enough of the honoring during Memorial Day weekend.

When I think of Memorial Day, I am in awe, because it reminds me of all of the sacrifices veterans and those men and women serving in the armed forces today have made for our safety. The greatest gift you can give is life, and they have all been serving us with the utmost dedication and honor for all of these years. We owe our lives and much much more to them. I think about veterans on Memorial Day by going to parades dedicated to the holiday, and I stare at the flag for a few minutes in the day and thank all those veterans who have kept that flag flying high and proud

to be honest, i've never given much thought about veterans on memorial day, let alone any other holiday or day that rolls around. writing this definately put into perspective that i should tribute more in doing so. as much as i'm not the type to reek of american pride, i do like to honor those who have fought wars for our country, being that alot of them are still around.

Memorial day is a time for me to remember those who have lost their lives serving for our country and those who are fighting now. Many people within my family have fought for the USA. My grandfather in the korean war, my Great Uncle in Vietnam, and currently my cousins in Iraq and Afghanistan. I believe that veterans do not get the amount of respect they deserve. While memorial day is a specific day set off to remember those who have fought, I feel that our country as a whole should be honoring them more than just one time a year. These men and women have done something that many people would never do, putting their lives at risk to protect the rights that we take for granted so often. Veterans never ask for appreciation and are rarely arrogant about their bravery and honor. To many people Memorial Day is just another day off from school, when it really means so much more to the men and women who have served our country.

Memorial Day is a day in which our nation makes it a point to lay aside heated debates and political agendas to unite around our apprecation for those who have laid down their lives for our country. It is a day set aside to allow us the opportunity to stop and truly think about the sacrafices our veterans have made for our country. In this day and age, the true meaning of holidays are rarely taken seriosuly. During Christmas, the average American rarely sets apart time to reflect on the magnitude of Christ's birth. Are presents and gingerbread men really more important? On Martin Luther King day and memorial day, do these men and women ever cross our minds? It seems as though the only holiday we don't completely miss the mark on is on our own birthdays. Memorial day is a day to take our eyes off our ourselves for once and remember the sacrafice of our veterans.

Memorial Day is not just a day off from school. It is far more than that. Many people look at the day as a free day to do whatever they want and have barbeques and family and friends over. They see it as a time for parades and to many I feel as though Memorial Day has started to lose the meaning of what it truly is about.
It is a day to reflect on the lives that many have lost in order to protect our country and to give thanks to those veterans who have risked their lives in order help us protect our freedom that we enjoy today. On this day, everyone should pay their respects to the people who serve and have served our country, and be proud and thankful of all that they have done for us.

I think that most kids in high school view Memorial Day as just another reason to have a day off from school and leave it at that. Memorial Day is more than just a day off, it's a time to reflect and give thanks to all the veterans who have risked their lives to fight for our country's freedom. Everyone should be paying their respects to those past, present, and even future soldiers who fight for our country; without people like them willing to risk everything for a nation, we wouldn't be in the position we are today. We have Memorial Day to honor those soldiers who have lost their lives, and remember what they did for this country. On Memorial Day, people should remember to appreciate our veterans in one way or another even if it's just thinking about them.

Despite being a flaming angry liberal, I hold a great respect for the men and women who have served the country in the armed forces, especially those who have lost their lives doing so. To me, Memorial Day is a time to celebrate the courage and selflessness of these men and women. While the spirit of the holiday to many seems to be corroded, to me it is an important date. I am the grandson of a Korean War veteran, and I've heard many stories about the horrors of war. I take pride in my grandfather and in the men in women who are serving the country in war.

Memorial Day is a special day when we all get the opportunity to thank American Veterans for serving our country in order to fufill our rights as citizens and protect our nation. In honor of these men and women, it's nice to take a day to commemorate them and thank them. This day is special to me because my step father, sean, served in the marines. It was hard for our family to be without him for several months while he went to Iraq, and this day serves its purpose perfectly due to this Marine.

Memorial Day is an important day for all Americans. We owe our lives and our freedom to those who have served in the military and died in our wars. We must remember that even if we do not agree with wars, there is something noble in going off to fight for one's country. the men and women who have served and died should never have their sacrifice be forgotten. The best way to honor this memory, i think, is to ensure that the living veterans have all the services they need. If we abandon those who fight for us after they have come home, then how can we say we are truly honoring their fallen comrades on Memorial Day?

Unfortunately I feel as though Memorial Day isn't really considered an important holiday to most Americans, rather it is a day where everyone gets off from work and school. While my family does have a memorial day party every year, its more of an excuse for my big Italian family to get together and eat as much food as possible. Memorial Day should be a more celebrated holiday, as we should recognize our veterans that have lost their lives in defense of our nation. I am glad that Cheshire continues to have its annual Sunday parade the day before Memorial Day. It reminds people that the day isn't just a day that everyone gets to stay home from work and school, but a day that we should appreciate what the thousands in our armed forces have done for us and the country for hundreds of years.

Memorial day is certainly more than just a day off from school. Had it not been for our armed forces the things we often take for granted could be in jeopardy. Millions of Americans have given their lives to protect our freedoms and the safety of our nation. The least we can do, as citizens, is honor all U.S troops on Memorial day. Things like a simple thank you to a veteran mean more to them than one might think. They have sacrificed a lot and they want to return home to their families and a thankful nation. On Memorial Day it is important to reflect on those who have fallen for our freedom.

On Memorial Day how i think about veterans is considering their sacrifice and devotion for this country. Also for myself this is more than just a day that i thank strangers for their actions, but many members of my family are in fact Veterans and i thank them as well. I believe that both Veteran's Day and Memorial Day are some of the most important days to commemorate. Not only are the survivors of past wars and conflicts important to remember but just as important, if not more important to remember is the lives of the men and women who actually lost thier lives defending this country. If i were a Veteran i would be very pleased that after decades since the actual conflicts/wars that students and young people are so educated on this matter and that they continue to learn about such events. i believe that as many men and women that can serve in the military should. One of the greatest ways to honor Veterans is to follow in their footsteps and join the Armed Forces.
